1 Indonesian Citizen Died and 2 Indonesian Citizens Missing After the Turkiye

TURKIYE — The grief of Turkiye and Syria from the shock of a 7.8-magnitude earthquake continues. In fact, this grief is not only felt by the local people, but also by the whole world, including Indonesia.

As of Thursday (9/2/2023), the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Ankara, Turkiye recorded that one Indonesian citizen (WNI) died due to the Turkiye Earthquake.

Through a written statement, the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara stated that an Indonesian citizen died because of being crushed by the ruins of a building in Kahramanmaras, Turkiye.

She is Nia Marlinda, a woman from Bali who lived in Kahramanmaras, Turkiye along with her Turkiye husband and also a child named Berkay Azka Calisir.

The Indonesian Embassy in Ankara reported that one Indonesian citizen died due to the Turkiye Earthquake, she was Nia Marlinda.

“One Indonesian citizen named Nia Marlinda from Bali, along with her one-year-old child and Turkish husband were found dead because they were buried in the ruins of the building,” explained Lalu Muhamad Iqbal, Indonesian Ambassador to Turkiye on Wednesday (8/2/2023).

Colonel Amir, the Indonesian Defense Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara, who led the Evacuation Team to Kahramanmaras, has confirmed the care of Nia Marlina’s body. This has also been communicated by the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara with Nia’s family and the deceased will be buried on Wednesday (8/2/2023) in Kahramanmaras, Turkiye.

On the other hand, the Indonesian Ambassador to Turkiye, Lalu Muhamad Iqbal also stated that there were five Indonesian citizens whose status were still uncontactable or missing since the devastating earthquake in Turkiye that occurred on Monday (6/2/2023).

They are Ayu Fira and her two children who live in Hatay and two spa therapists in Diyarbakir. However, on Wednesday (8/2/2023), alhamdulillaah Ayu Fira and her two children were found safe, meanwhile two spa therapists in Diyarbakir still cannot be contacted.

“In Diyarbakir, there are two spa therapists who until now we have not been able to contact, even in the WhatsApp group of spa therapists in Diyarbakir have not responded at all,” said Lalu Muhamad Iqbal, quoted from CNN Indonesia, Thursday (9/2/2023)

Previously, the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara Team led directly by the Indonesian Ambassador had arrived in the earthquake area on Tuesday (7/2/2023) at 9.30PM local time, after a road trip of about 17 hours. In fact, the normal journey only takes 5-6 hours. However, due to the blizzard weather with temperatures of 4 to -7 degrees Celsius, the travel time is 3 times longer.

The Indonesian Embassy in Ankara team consisting of Tim Konsuler Perlindungan WNI (the Indonesian Citizen Protection Consular Team), Tim Atase Pertahanan (the Defense Attaché Team) and Perbinlu (BIN officials) have done the evacuation from the 4 most severe points affected by the earthquake.
