SOUTH TANGERANG — An inspiring collaboration was again carried out by Dompet Dhuafa and Chiki Fawzi. Through Chikigo, a fashion brand founded by Chiki Fawzi in 2020, this collaboration presents a fashion collection that combines Klaten Lurik supplied by Dompet Dhuafa’s fostered residents.
On Monday (28/10/2024) afternoon at the Chikigo office in the South Tangerang area, the Dompet Dhuafa team had the opportunity to peek at the creative process behind the making of the latest fashion collection which will be displayed at the upcoming International Modest Fashion Festival (IN2MF) 2024. Chiki Fawzi and the Chikigo team were busy with their fashion equipment. Some were doing quality checks, installing hang tags, and packing.
Pop art-style illustrations, fabrics, threads, needles, scissors and mannequins were the main sight in Chikigo’s workshop room. While illustrating the designs, Chiki shared some of the inspirations for her latest work that will be displayed at IN2MF 2024.
“I’m actually not a fashion designer, more of an illustrator. These latest illustrations are inspired by events that have happened. For example, the fallen journalists in Gaza, the watermelon symbol, resistance slogans as well as independence, and others. What I really like is the combination with Klaten Lurik,” said Ikang Fawzi’s second daughter meaningfully, while showing some of her illustrations.
“Besides being inspired by Palestine, this latest work is also inspired by the late Marissa Haque, my mother. Actually, I wanted to make some of these latest works for my mother. But qadarullah, my mother passed away when this work was not finished,” added Chiki, remembering her beloved mother who passed away on October 2, 2024.
Not without reason, the latest collection that presents the archipelago’s wastra is also to support Palestinian independence at the IN2MF 2024 event which will take place on October 30 to November 3 at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) with the title “Elevating Sustainable Modest Fashion to The Global Stage! Step Into The Future of Fashion”.
“It’s a pleasure and an honor to be able to collaborate with Klaten Lurik under the guidance of Dompet Dhuafa. Because the spirit is social empowerment. And because I can draw and do fashion, I have a voice through this. The pictures in Chikigo are the fruit of my unrest,” said Chiki.

For information, Klaten Lurik empowerment is the weaving work of Dompet Dhuafa’s fostered residents through the Economy program. Starting from the zakat funds channeled to Dompet Dhuafa, it now makes the disadvantaged residents there independent and empowered.
