Characteristics of Profitable and Blessed Business
Business that receives blessings from Allah SWT has several recognizable characteristics. Firstly, it provides positive benefits to consumers. The goods or services offered are not only of high quality but also meet real consumer needs and are genuinely beneficial.
Secondly, the trader adheres to principles of honesty and transparency. Blessed business is always conducted with principles of honesty and transparency. Sellers clearly explain the quality, price, and benefits of the products they sell, without hiding any defects or shortcomings.
The third characteristic is providing good customer service. A seller who provides good service will be appreciated by customers. Customers who are satisfied with the seller’s service will be happy and willing to buy their products and are likely to return for more.
One example from the life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) when he was a trader is that his customers highly appreciated his honesty, and he became widely known for it. People were eager to buy from Rasulullah SAW. Not only that, because of his service, product quality, and honesty, a respected and wealthy merchant named Khadijah entrusted her capital to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) for trading.

Things to Avoid for a Profitable and Blessed Business
Friends, in conducting business in accordance with Islamic law, there are certain things that must be avoided to ensure that your business remains blessed by Allah SWT:
- Stay away from all forms of usury and dishonest practices: It’s best to avoid selling goods through usurious transactions, such as installment plans with interest that can make it difficult for customers to pay.
- Avoid fraud and actions that harm consumers: Islam emphasizes the importance of honesty and trustworthiness in business. Therefore, it’s prohibited to engage in deception, such as cheating or altering the weights and measures, mixing good and defective products, and more.
- Avoid products that are prohibited or have questionable halal status: Such as alcohol, pork, or products that do not meet religious norms. Before selling certain products, one should carefully investigate and determine their halal status to ensure that your business doesn’t harm others.
- Avoid using means to boost sales: This is considered a form of shirk, associating partners with Allah. It indicates doubt in Allah as the Ultimate Provider. Allah warns us in His word, “Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills.” (Quran, An-Nisa: 116). Associating partners with Allah by using such means is a major sin that will not be forgiven.

Charity Facilitates Sustenance
Charity does not make us poor. On the contrary, charity makes us more spacious and facilitates sustenance by Allah SWT. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said to Zubair bin Awwam, “O Zubair, know that the key to a servant’s sustenance is above the Throne, sent by Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, for each servant according to his provision. So, whoever increases charity to others, surely Allah will increase for him. And whoever restricts, Allah will restrict for him.” (Narrated by Daruquthni from Anas, may Allah be pleased with him)
