SOLOK, WEST SUMATRA — After Eid al-Fitr and two weeks before Eid al-Adha 1445 H, Dompet Dhuafa entered the week of implementing Quality Control (QC) of sacrificial animals for the Tebar Hewan Kurban (THK) 1445 H. Dompet Dhuafa together with Super Volunteer Aiman Ricky carried out the QC process at DD Farm Solok, Nagari Sirukam, West Sumatra, Friday (5/17/2024).
Before distributing qurbani meat, Dompet Dhuafa carries out a fairly strict QC process. DD Farm Solok itself holds the motto ASUH (Safe, Healthy, Whole and Halal), that Dompet Dhuafa’s sacrificial animals have passed the QC process such as checking body weight, mouth and nails, animal age, giving vitamins, vaccinations to cage cleanliness.
In the process, a livestock orderly, Budi, was also present to help with the QC process. The first step is to check the weight of the sacrificial animals. For cattle, Dompet Dhuafa has a standard that must reach a weight of 250 kg. Alhamdulillah, as many as 21 bulls at DD Farm Solok reached a weight of more than 250 kg.
“So because towards the condition of sacrificial meat that is ASUH, we have vitamin administration, periodic deworming, then periodic vaccinations. And this vaccination has been carried out three times, so it is safe from Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD),” said Budi.

After that, there is also an age check. Dompet Dhuafa’s sacrificial animals must be two years old. This is indicated by the release of the cow’s teeth. In addition, temperature, heart rate, and appetite are also checked. Maximum appetite proves that the animals are healthy.
“After checking the teeth and weight, we check the body temperature, heart rate, and check the movement of the rumen (stomach organ) when there are livestock with reduced appetite, or from the air exchange there is an exchange of pox, and there are some that look weak. So, we take that action,” Budi added.
Furthermore, Budi said there are two methods to measure cattle temperature, namely through the mucosa (mouth) and through the rectum, using a thermometer commonly used for humans. The normal temperature of cattle ranges from 37.9-38.9 degrees Celsius, with the best temperature between 38.1-38.9 degrees Celsius.
Heart rate checks are also conducted. Unhealthy cattle usually have abnormal heartbeats, either too fast or too slow. Lumen movement, which indicates the cow’s appetite, is also checked. If the lumen movement is poor, then the appetite is also decreased. Finally, the mucous membrane in the cow’s mouth is examined.
“This is my first experience seeing Quality Control with Dompet Dhuafa at DD Farm Solok Sirukam. Moreover, what we see is also the quality control because it is rare to see what kind of quality control. So, those of us who sacrifice feel safe, so we don’t just buy, but it is clear how it is maintained. From the cage to the end of the distribution. So, I salute Dompet Dhuafa. Hopefully, it can continue to improve its quality so that the whole of Indonesia, the whole country is given qurbani meat by Dompet Dhuafa,” said Aiman.
“Alhamdulillah, Friends of Dompet Dhuafa, I have witnessed the QC process of sacrificial animals carried out by Dompet Dhuafa. So many trips, the process starts from weighing the body weight, checking the nails, and mouth. There was also a body temperature measurement, even a stethoscope was also checked, and the most recent thing is that here we really see that everything must be in a FURTHER condition. That’s really important for all of us, so we don’t hesitate to sacrifice. So don’t make the wrong choice, set your heart, choose the best qurbani place and my advice is that the best is in Dompet Dhuafa,” explained Aiman Ricky.
In the implementation of THK, Dompet Dhuafa carries the tagline Kurban 3 Pasti. Namely Pasti Jantan, which means ensuring that the sacrificial animal is male. This is related to the sustainability of the animal itself, so as not to slaughter those who are breastfeeding. Then, it must have passed quality control, meaning that it has gone through a health check process and is in accordance with Sharia. Finally, it must be distributed to remote areas, as a form of Dompet Dhuafa’s commitment to pay more attention to the Disadvantaged, Frontier, Outermost (3T) areas that rarely consume qurbani meat.
The atmosphere of the upcoming Eid al-Adha celebration is different from previous years. As we know, currently in Indonesia there are many people who are in difficult conditions to be able to fulfill their daily needs. One of them is the people who are survivors of flash floods or Galodo in West Sumatra. For this reason, Dompet Dhuafa strives to be a solution to the difficulties experienced by the community.
This year, Dompet Dhuafa will distribute qurbani to disaster-hit areas in West Sumatra, specifically in Tanah Datar Regency and Agam Regency. This initiative aims to not only fulfill the nutritional needs of the affected communities, but also provide moral support and encouragement in the midst of difficult situations. (Dompet Dhuafa)
