JAKARTA — The transition into the new year has seemingly not heralded a significant change for the people of Gaza, Palestine. As of Friday, January 26, 2024, the oppression by Israel in the sacred land revered by three religions persists. The Israeli occupation of Gaza, which commenced on October 7, 2023, has now extended for 111 days, resulting in the tragic loss of tens of thousands of lives, including those of journalists.
Despite the passage of nearly three months, the international community’s support for the Palestinian people, including that from Indonesians, remains steadfast. Far from waning, their voices are growing louder, and humanitarian assistance continues to be mobilized. Among those rallying in solidarity are the congregants of Al-Makmur Mosque Senayan City, who, during a series of Friday prayer events on January 26, 2024, in Tanah Abang District, Central Jakarta, DKI Jakarta, channeled their concern into action.
The management of Al-Makmur Mosque Senayan City not only voiced their support for Palestine but also facilitated the distribution of humanitarian aid. This initiative culminated in the successful collection of IDR 23,475,000 in donations for Palestine, which were subsequently entrusted to Dompet Dhuafa to facilitate their delivery.
Syafe’i, the Chairman of the Mosque Management of Al-Makmur Mosque Senayan City, oversaw the donation process, which was received by Kemal Aziz, the Mosque Fundraising Officer of Dompet Dhuafa. Kemal expressed his gratitude for the mosque congregation’s commitment to supporting humanitarian efforts in Palestine.
“We hope the donated funds will help alleviate the hardships faced by our brothers and sisters in Palestine. May this act of kindness serve as an ongoing charity for us all,” he remarked.
Syafe’i shared his enthusiasm and appreciation for the opportunity to collaborate with Dompet Dhuafa, an organization he regards as highly trustworthy and responsible in managing community contributions. This partnership, now in its third year, began with a similar cooperative effort three years ago.
“We are immensely grateful for this special day that allows us to join forces with Dompet Dhuafa. Recognizing them as a reliable ally in supporting Palestine, we are proud to make this our second donation following our initial contribution in November. Although the amount may not be as large as some might hope, we believe this collaboration with Dompet Dhuafa will continue to foster acts of goodwill,” Syafe’i stated.
Moreover, Al-Makmur Mosque Senayan City aspires for this endeavor to nurture a sense of humanity and compassion among its members.
The event concluded with a communal recitation of prayers for forgiveness, invoking Allah’s mercy to fulfill the hopes and resolutions of Al-Makmur Mosque Senayan City’s congregation for the year 2024. (Dompet Dhuafa/Kemal/Muthohar)
