JAKARTA — Closing out the year 2023, Dompet Dhuafa made another appearance at the Big Bang Fest 2023. This festival, which embraces the concept of the Biggest Warehouse Exhibition, was held for 11 days from December 22, 2023, to January 1, 2024, at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta.
On Friday (29/12/2023), aligning with the Humanesia Program, Dompet Dhuafa hosted a talk show titled “Easily Being Good Through Dompet Dhuafa App” at the Garden Stage of the Big Bang Festival.
The talk show kicked off with a fun activity, painting tote bags with education-themed designs. The high enthusiasm of the visitors filled the stage area with children and adults attending the Big Bang Fest.

This activity aimed to introduce the Dompet Dhuafa App or DD Apps to the visitors of the Big Bang Fest 2023. In today’s digital age, there are many options for easily channeling kindness. With its tagline #EasilyBeingGood, Dompet Dhuafa offers a solution to support acts of kindness and worship.
Yes, the Dompet Dhuafa App provides two main features: Donation and Worship. Previously, Adi Kurniawan, the Senior Officer of Digital Fundraising at Dompet Dhuafa, mentioned that he saw a high potential for zakat reaching up to IDR 220 trillion. However, currently, only 8% has been achieved. Thus, this app was created to bridge donors with benefit recipients.
“The hope is that donors here can easily see their donation process, then see their activities and not have to worry because it can be done anytime and anywhere,” he explained.

Furthermore, Adi mentioned that in the Donation feature, users could channel their funds not only for alms but also for zakat, waqf, specific funds for humanitarian causes, and even pay or installment for qurban animals.
As for the Worship feature, DD Apps offers Prayer Times, the Quran complete with audio, Zakat Calculator to compute the obligatory zakat amount, Zakat Pickup so you do not need to leave your house, and the Ask Ustadz menu that connects directly with an ustadz for consultations on religion, especially ZISWAF.
“We have also collaborated with Dana (app), so friends who have installed DD Apps can directly connect with the Dana app by activating it, then there will be an automatic Regular Donation feature. So we can set it, every Friday, every Subuh, we don’t need to wake up, pray Subuh and look at the phone, but just set it up from now. Whenever we want to donate, it will automatically be deducted from the balance, so this regular donation is much requested by donors,” he added.
Dompet Dhuafa Facilities at Big Bang Fest
Besides the talk show, Dompet Dhuafa also provided a Musala facility to facilitate prayer for exhibition visitors. There were also fun and child-friendly activities like VR disaster, Disaster Puzzle at booths set up by Dompet Dhuafa. In this collaboration for goodness, Dompet Dhuafa also carried the campaign “Build Schools in Remote Areas.” This time, Dompet Dhuafa focused on remote areas in Banten.
The bleak portrait of education still clings to Indonesia to this date. According to data from Kemendikbudristek, in 2020, there were about 1,413,523 recorded classrooms, while about 1,222,064 of them were in damaged condition (light, moderate & severe categories). This means only 14% of classrooms in Indonesia are in suitable condition, and 86% are damaged or less suitable.
“That’s why we are trying to promote the campaign Build Schools in Remote Areas. We are focusing on the remote areas of Banten, in Pandeglang, at MI Amarullah. There is a school so severely damaged, they are supposed to have 6 classes, but the available and albeit unfit classes are only 4, and they are considered unsuitable. So there are 2 classes that are severely damaged,” Adi continued.

What’s worse, when the rainy season comes, the students have to move because some classrooms don’t have windows. This condition makes the students unable to focus, thus making the learning environment less conducive.
“When it rains, they have to move because some windows are missing or lost, then the wood starts to rot, and eventually, their learning environment is very unconducive. Whereas, they are the future generation and we have to support them, that’s why we build the Build Schools in Remote Areas,” said Adi.
Through this campaign of kindness, alhamdulillah, 37–42 schools have been renovated by Dompet Dhuafa. This achievement was made possible thanks to the kindness of donors, not only individual donors but also from institutions or companies. Dompet Dhuafa hopes that not only the buildings will change but also the capacity of teachers to be more adaptive to technology.
“Our hope is that not only the physical structure of the school is built, but also the quality of the teachers is improved, their teaching methods become better, modern, and in line with technological advancements. The facilities are also strengthened. So, it’s not just about looking good physically, but also the output produced by the graduating children is really ready to become the next generation of the nation,” he added.
One of the renovated schools is Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Kamancing, Lebak, Banten. The elementary school only has 20 students from grades 1 to 6. Financial constraints are one of the many reasons children cannot attend school, also because of the damaged condition of the school.
“They only had three classes, and they were almost collapsing. The journey to the construction site, from the main road we had to walk about 45 minutes to 1 hour, and it couldn’t be passed by regular motorcycles because of the rocky terrain. What impressed us was the community’s commitment; we only provided the building materials, and the construction was done voluntarily by the community themselves. They carried the building materials over the hills, but the community had a commitment to their children.”
“Alhamdulillah, the construction process was completed in less than a year. Then, we also have a mentoring process for the teachers for a year,” Adi concluded. (Dompet Dhuafa/Anndini)
