BIMA, WEST NUSA TENGGARA — All his life, Nurdin Kahir (68) never imagined that he could perform qurbani in Eid al-Adha 1444 AH/2023 AD. For the last 10 years, he has been a caretaker of a mosque in Nunggi Village, Wera Sub-District, Bima, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). Before that, he was an interprovincial night bus driver. According to him, his daily income is only enough to support his family’s basic needs.
“I didn’t expect that my name was called not as a meat recipient or qurbani committee member, but as a qurbani performer. I was very touched. Working as a marbot and opening a small stall at home, I never thought I could perform qurbani. Thank you Dompet Dhuafa and Prudential Syariah for making my dream come true,” said Nurdin, a day before celebrating Eid al-Adha 1444 H, Friday (6/30/2023).
Similar to Nurdin, Arsyad (78), also a mosque caretaker in the same village, never expected to be able to perform qurbani in Eid al-Adha 1444 H. That afternoon, his tears broke out. Emotion filled the room of his house. To the Dompet Dhuafa team, he expressed his gratitude.
“I am touched by your arrival today. Only now can I sacrifice myself, on my own behalf,” said Arsyad with a hoarse voice.

Dompet Dhuafa’s Tebar Hewan Kurban (THK) Program Facilitator, Wahyudin, revealed that the marbot did not expect to be selected as beneficiaries of this program. Nurdin and Arsyad were among 119 mosque caretakers who received sacrificial gifts in their names as a result of Dompet Dhuafa’s collaboration with Prudential Syariah.
Prudential Syariah focuses on distributing sacrificial animal gifts to 3T (Remote, Disadvantaged and Remote) areas, namely Bima and Dompu Regencies, NTB and Rote Ndao Island and Kupang, NTT.
“When the Prudential Syariah program first existed for them, they did not expect, how come there were people who wanted to give sacrificial animals to them,” said Wahyudin.

On the day of sacrifice, the mosque caretakers and the Dompet Dhuafa Team accompanied the procession of slaughtering sacrificial animals in the form of a cow with solemnity and emotion. One of the community leaders, Muhammad Ilyas, said that in Nunggi Village itself there are still many poor people who have never performed qurbani.
“It has never happened before that there are people who want to give qurbani animals to these marbot. This year they not only received meat, but also gave meat to the poor in the village,” said Ilyas. (Dompet Dhuafa)
