WONOGIRI, CENTRAL JAVA – Dompet Dhuafa Yogyakarta Branch together with Disaster Management Center (DMC) and Nurul Asri Mosque built a borehole well in Gondang Hamlet, Eromoko District, Wonogiri Regency, Saturday (28/09/2024). The presence of this borehole well is an oasis that overcomes the clean water crisis in drought areas with calcareous topography and far from water sources. A total of 55 families in Gondang Hamlet will be helped in their daily clean water needs.
The location of Gondang Hamlet is at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level with a topography of calcareous hills, causing the soil to not be able to store water for a long time. So that to fulfill their daily needs, the residents only depend on water supplies from rainwater storage and from the Gadjah Mungkur Reservoir. The lack of access to the Gadjah Mungkur Reservoir makes it difficult for residents to get clean water.
Launching from Kompas.com, on Thursday (22/8/2024), the Executive Head of the Wonogiri Regency BPBD, Trias Budiono, stated that the clean water crisis has hit residents in 14 sub-districts in the past month. On average, residents experience a clean water crisis because water sources shrink until they dry up.

“Wonogiri Regency is already on drought alert. It is reported to have occurred (clean water crisis) in 14 sub-districts. Although there are one to two villages in each sub-district that are reported to be experiencing water shortages,” said Trias.
Trias said the clean water crisis hit after water sources began to dry up. This condition forced residents to buy clean water from traveling water vendors.
“
Many water sources have dried up,” Trias explained. According to Trias, the clean water crisis is most severe in the southern region of Wonogiri Regency, namely Giritontro and Eromoko Subdistricts.
“Dompet Dhuafa Yogyakarta in collaboration with the Nurul Asri Mosque provides well drilling assistance. Drilling in hilly areas is not easy. The drill bit must penetrate thick hard rock. Broken drill bits are a challenge that is often faced, as well as this drilling. After struggling with the hardness of the rock, water was finally found at a depth of 90 meters. A four-hour non-stop pump test was conducted and produced a constant flow. The water quality is clear, odorless and tasteless,” said Bambang, Program Manager of Dompet Dhuafa Yogyakarta.
However, the borehole work has not been fully completed. To be utilized, it needs to be continued with the construction of a pipeline network. Currently, the community is working together to build a water reservoir with a capacity of 10,000 liters. The water reservoir is placed at the highest point in Gondang Hamlet, so that water can flow to residential areas with a gravity system.

In the future, this clean water facility will be managed independently by residents who are members of PAMDus (Dusun Drinking Water Management) and serve no less than 55 houses. This number is still very likely to increase as the network expands.
“Thank you to Dompet Dhuafa Yogyakarta and the Nurul Asri Mosque, the well, thank God, has been finished, the water quality is good and abundant, with this we residents will no longer have difficulty getting clean water to meet their daily needs. Furthermore, we still need support for the construction of the distribution network. As for labor, residents are ready to work together, because that’s all we can do, “said Totok, one of the residents of Dussn Gondang. (Dompet Dhuafa)
