PAPUA — Dompet Dhuafa Papua, in synergy with volunteers of the Sekolah Relawan and LDP Kemensos RI held a Psychological First Aid (PFA) activity at the Hamadi refugee post and the Bank BTN Taman Mesran post on Monday (13/2/2023).
This action was carried out to reduce the impact of trauma from the earthquake some time ago. Especially for the kids, they should still have to play.
Umayra Maulida Sabatiyah as the Branch Leader of Dompet Dhuafa Papua explained that a psychological approach must be taken immediately for children. Because if children are too late to participate in their parents’ grief, they will be worried about being carried away by prolonged trauma until adulthood.
PFA activities will shift the child’s focus from negative memories that have the potential to become traumatized to beautiful and pleasant memories. Playing and speaking are the main activities in this activity. The child’s experience in gaining the affection and cheerfulness of the volunteer brothers and sisters in the refuge will fill the experience and positive learning for the child.
“It will also impact them as adults that fellow human beings should help each other,” Umyara said.
The PFA conducted by the Dompet Dhuafa team generally is for children and adults. This is to build parents into a stable psychology after a disaster. That way, parents will also give positive impressions for their children. Because children will be very easy to follow the conditions of their parents.
“Dompet Dhuafa hopes that with this PFA activity, children will not be too late in the negative memories of disasters. In this activity, the DD Papua team invited the children to sing and play games. The children seemed happy and enthusiastic about participating in this activity,” concluded Umay. (Dompet Dhuafa/Papua/Muthohar)
