Caring for Palestine: A Never-ending Struggle for All Muslims in the World

Palestine has become a symbol of the struggle against decades of injustice and oppression. The Palestinian people face a prolonged conflict that has a direct impact on their daily lives, from homelessness, limited access to health services, to food and clean water shortages. For Muslims around the world, supporting Palestine is not just an option, but a moral and religious obligation.

In Islamic teachings, caring for others and fighting injustice are part of the religious commandments. The Qur’an and Hadith repeatedly emphasise the importance of helping the oppressed and fighting for justice. The Messenger of Allah (SAW) once said, ‘The example of believers in terms of loving each other, caring for each other, and compassion for each other is like one body, if one member of the body is sick, the whole body will feel the pain.’ (HR. Muslim). So, when our brothers and sisters in Palestine are suffering, it is only fitting that we feel for them and help ease their burden.

Why is Supporting Palestine Important?

Palestine is not only a political issue, but also a humanitarian one. Thousands of children live in fear every day, education is hampered, and access to healthcare is severely limited. In addition, the prolonged economic blockade has left many families unable to fulfil basic needs. In this context, any help from the global community, especially Muslims, counts.

Support for Palestine comes in many forms, from awareness campaigns, peaceful protests, to fundraising to help with their basic needs. The Palestine awareness movement can play an important role in raising awareness among the international community, urging governments and international organisations to take concrete action.

What Are the Needs of the Palestinian People?

The Palestinian people currently need various forms of assistance to fulfil their daily needs. Here are some forms of assistance that are urgently needed:

  1. Logistics and Food
Blockades and prolonged conflict have led to difficulties in accessing food. Many families live below the poverty line and rely on humanitarian aid for daily food. Logistical assistance, such as groceries and other daily necessities, is essential to ease their burden.
  2. Medicines and Medical Equipment
With limited access to health facilities and a shortage of medicines, aid in the form of shipments of medicines and medical equipment is urgently needed to save lives and treat those who are injured or sick. This assistance also includes medical supplies such as masks, hand sanitisers, and surgical equipment.
  3. Clean Water and Sanitation Facilities
Many areas in Palestine suffer from a clean water crisis due to damaged infrastructure and blockades that impede water distribution. Assistance in the form of construction of sanitation facilities and provision of clean water is very helpful in preventing the spread of diseases and fulfilling their daily needs.
  4. Education and Psychosocial Support
Palestinian children have been traumatised by the ongoing conflict. Therefore, in addition to material assistance, support in the form of education and psychosocial assistance is also very important to help them build a better future.

Fighting Injustice: An Enduring Task

The struggle to support Palestine often faces various challenges, ranging from political obstacles, international pressure, to internal issues. However, as Muslims, we must not give up. The spirit of brotherhood and solidarity must continue to be ignited to fight for the unfulfilled rights of the Palestinian people. Injustice must be fought in various ways, both through concrete actions and prayers.

Every small step we take, whether it’s donating, sharing information, or voicing justice, is a form of contribution to keep their hope alive. As the Qur’an teaches, ‘And help each other in (doing) righteousness and piety, and do not help each other in sin and enmity.’ (QS. Al-Maidah: 2).
