Carrying out Humanitarian Duties for the Turkey Earthquake, Dompet Dhuafa Volunteers Officially Dispatched

SOUTH TANGERANG — Dompet Dhuafa sent a team of volunteers to Turkey, including doctors, medical experts, and evaluation teams. This was done in solidarity with the people of Turkey following the tragic earthquake on Monday (6/2/20223). The dispatched doctors and medical personnel have special skills, including neurosurgery, bone and disaster specialists.

Dompet Dhuafa dispatched dr. Zainab Aqila, dr. Rosmalia, dr. Sjarif Sp.B, Narwan and Dedi Fadlil. The departure of dompet Dhuafa volunteers occurred on Thursday (9/2/2023) at the Disaster Management Center (DMC) office in Ciputat, South Tangerang. Rahmad Riyadi, Chairman of Dompet Dhuafa Republika Foundation, and Ustaz Ahmad Shonhaji, Director of Dompet Dhuafa’s Social Services, Da’wah, and Culture, attended the event.

“We are still dealing with tragedies throughout the country, such as the Cianjur earthquake and several other places. However, we are already required to respond to calamities that occur elsewhere. I believe this is a difficult duty since, on the one hand, it is focused on the country, but this call is unavoidably part of the task of Islamic philanthropy,” Rahmad Riyadi stated in his speech.

Dr. Zainab Aqila and Dr. Rosmalia, the Volunteer Doctors who will be dispatched, are currently quarantined, awaiting the debriefing of the Emergency Medical Team (EMT) departure from the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes). Dr. Sjarif Sp.B, Narwan, and Dedi Fadlil were dispatched under the coordination of the National Search and Rescue Agency or Badan Nasional Pencarian dan Pertolongan (Basarnas) RI.

“I stated from the start that when I joined Dompet Dhuafa, it was not just a one-time duty in the hospital. Insyaallah, I am pursuing humanitarian duties. Whenever DMC contacts me, God willing, with Allah’s permission, I will help. I will endow myself,” said dr. Sjarif Sp.B., a Dompet Dhuafa volunteer who will leave for Turkey.

It is hoped that the dispatched volunteers could provide aid and maslahat to our brothers and sisters in Turkey, Armed with their humanitarian spirit and expertise.

Dr. Sjarif Sp.B. further mentioned, “We don’t know what the weather would be like; the last we heard, it was -10 degrees. However, all of this will be a jariyah charity for the donors of Dompet Dhuafa. Hopefully, the community will continue to trust us as a charitable institution that, Insyaallah, will be mandated to carry out humanitarian missions.” (Dompet Dhuafa/Awalia R)
