Chief Minister Sindh Appreciates Dompet Dhuafa’s Humanitarian Work Towards Pakistan’s Flood Response

KARACHI, PAKISTAN – The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Karachi, Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah, expressed his high appreciation for the people and the Indonesian government’s genuine assistance in Pakistan’s flood response. He said this during a courtesy call by the Indonesian Consulate General of Karachi with the Indonesian humanitarian team to CM Murad Ali Shah at his residence on Saturday (8/10/2022).

Murad, more specifically, expressed his appreciation to Dompet Dhuafa for initiating assistance in constructing model houses in the Thatta district. Murad then explained the current flood situation, that the flood conditions gradually began to recede. But in some regions, water remains stagnant. Flooding in Pakistan in recent years has generally affected only a few districts in Sindh. Unfortunately, in this flood, more than 20 districts in Sindh were affected by the floods.

 Responding to this, the Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia Karachi, Dr. June Kuncoro Hadiningrat, reiterated Indonesia’s commitment to helping overcome the impact of Pakistan’s flash flood disaster. He also expressed his appreciation for the assistance in constructing model houses in the Thatta district by Dompet Dhuafa. He hopes that what Dompet Dhuafa is doing can develop into a pilot project for Kampung Indonesia, for flood victims in Pakistan.

 Quoting from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia website, June Kuncoro explained that the construction of the residence by Dompet Dhuafa was carried out within 5 (five) days at the cost of Rp50,000,000, – or worth 750,000 Rupees. Currently, the Government of Indonesia is reviewing the development plan for Indonesia’s housing assistance. The Indonesian Consul General hopes that if this can be implemented, then the location and administration of the legality of the housing can be guaranteed by the Government of Pakistan.

June also proposed that the Kampung Indonesia development plan could be integrated into a housing development scheme for flood victims designed by the Sindh Provincial Government, Pakistan.

On another occasion, Narwan, the Manager of The Response and Recovery Disaster Management Center (DMC) of Dompet Dhuafa, who is currently in charge of the Pakistani flood response team, explained that the Dompet Dhuafa DMC team is in the third phase of distributing Aid. This Aid is the result of the kindness of the Indonesian people to relatives in Pakistan

Dompet Dhuafa in collaboration with the Indonesian Embassy in Islamabad, KJRI Karachi, The Coordinating Ministry of PMK and BNPB succeeded in building houses or temporary housing for flood survivors in Pakistan.

 Previously, in the first phase, Dompet Dhuafa had rolled out assistance through WeCare partners, followed by aid in collaboration with the government coordinated by BNPB. Dompet Dhuafa has also collaborated with several parties to build houses for refugees, as mentioned by the Indonesian Consul General of Karachi, Dr. June Kuncoro Hadiningrat.

“Currently, the Dompet Dhuafa team, which is on duty in the mission, is distributing the third batch of assistance for the good of the Indonesian people to relatives in Pakistan who were affected by flash floods some time ago. In addition, it also improves refugee shelters, as told by the local wisdom. There is also the distribution of main foodstuffs or basic necessities as a priority in the rollout of aid this time. Later, the DMC Dompet Dhuafa volunteer team will also build sanitation in the evacuation area,” he explained during the release of the DMC response team to Pakistan on Friday (7/10/2022).
