NORTH SUMATRA — The 13th of Dhu-Al-Hijjah is the last day to slaughter the qurbani animals during Eid-ul-Adha. In Eid al-Adha 1445 AH, Dompet Dhuafa Waspada (North Sumatra) once again held the Tebar Hewan Kurban (THK) Program. In 2024 AD, the reach of qurbani beneficiaries was recorded at 15,360 people spread across various regions of North Sumatra.
On Wednesday (19/06/2024), Dompet Dhuafa Waspada has completed the distribution of THK to a number of these beneficiaries. Meanwhile, the number of sacrificial animals that were successfully sacrificed was 384 sheep / goat equivalents (doka). Hundreds of these animals were distributed to various remote villages covering Medan, Binjai, Deli Serdang, Lubuk Pakam, Langkat, Serdang Bedagai, Simalungun, Rantau Parapat, Padang Sidempuan, Batubara, Duri, and Karo.
Regarding the distribution of qurbani points, Sulaiman as Branch Manager of Dompet Dhuafa Waspada said, the selection of qurbani locations was carried out based on the criteria of marginalized areas, minorities, and rarely or even no qurbani performers. This is one of the efforts to equalize the distribution of qurbani every year, where Dompet Dhuafa first conducts an assessment to ensure that the location is suitable or not for qurbani.

He then expressed his gratitude for the trust given by the qurbani donors through Dompet Dhuafa Waspada.
“Alhamdulillah, this year’s qurbani from Dompet Dhuafa Waspada was carried out well. We would like to thank the qurbani donors who have entrusted their qurbani through Dompet Dhuafa Waspada. Our hope is that this program will continue and continue to increase, so that the benefits of qurbani will be felt by more and more people,” he said.
One of the THK distribution areas was Jaring Halus Village, Secanggang, Langkat Regency, which was followed directly by Chiki Fawzi, who is one of Dompet Dhuafa’s Volunteer Specialists. In this place, Chiki directly delivered his sacrificial animals and distributed the meat directly to several residents’ homes.
“I see that they are really looking forward to qurbani meat, especially here in areas far from the city, including areas where there is minimal qurbani at all,” she said.
In addition to her own qurbani animals, Chiki also delivered 12 sheep and 1 cow using a small wooden boat owned by a local resident. The water journey took more than an hour, departing from Pematang Buluh Harbor through the Langkat Canal river, until it anchored in Jaring Halus Village.

The people of Jaring Halus Village were the beneficiaries of the qurbani meat distribution because they are fishermen who can only enjoy meat during Eid al-Adha. Through this THK Program, they can also enjoy lamb or beef, even if only once a year.
After the meat was chopped and wrapped using banana leaves, Chiki delivered a package of meat to Ahmad’s house (98) in hamlet 2 of Jaring Halus Village. While looking shocked at Chiki, Ahmad expressed his gratitude for the meat he received. Indeed, he will not be the one to process the meat, but for him this is a luxury.
“Thank you for sharing the qurbani meat. My children (and) grandchildren must be very happy,” he said.
Furthermore, the meat will be given to his son to be processed and cooked, then enjoyed together with his family members. (Dompet Dhuafa)
