DILI, TIMOR LESTE — “This Eid sacrifice is in a country with a Muslim minority. Experience the Tebar Hewan Kurban (THK) at Masjid An-Nur, the only mosque in Timor Leste, built in 1956 (Portuguese Era) by Yemenis who brought Islam to this land long ago.
“Here, I see sacrifice as a da’wah vehicle that shows Islam rahmatan lil alamin, because those who receive the benefits are not only minority Muslims here. High tolerance, non-Muslim friends help slaughter sacrificial animals and share them,” said Chiki Fawzi, Super Volunteer of Dompet Dhuafa, on Eid al-Adha 1444 H, Thursday (29/6/2023).
Yes, Timor Leste is a country with a percentage of Muslim population of only one percent. The THK program was also present as a form of da’wah action to strengthen a better Islamic ukuwah in Timor Leste. However, the enthusiasm and enthusiasm to welcome the Feast of Sacrifice is also not only felt by Muslim brothers but also by non-Muslims. They also helped the process of distributing sacrificial animals there.
Dompet Dhuafa and Yayasan Masjid An Nur—THK’s partner in Timor Leste—held the slaughter and distribution of sacrificial animals at An-Nur Mosque, Dili. The mosque is the only Islamic da’wah centre in Dili, and records that there are about 3,000 households eligible to receive sacrificial meat.
“Although I have difficulty communicating because they speak Portuguese or Tetun, who speak Indonesian most of them are parents or have felt part of Indonesia in the past. But somehow heartwarming saw his kinship. Orientals’ ear-to-ear smiles are heartwarming!” admits Chiki.
“Masyaallah, sacrifice in Dompet Dhuafa is easy, blessing, trustful, on target and manly. Nyaksiin himself how the Quality Control is also, which ensures the quality of animals always follows sharia and health standards, “he added again. (Dompet Dhuafa/Nunus/Dedi Fadlil/Mansyur)
