CIREBON, WEST JAVA – A total of 35 Mualafs (People convert to Islam) participated in the Rihlah Mualaf dan Gerakan Cinta Sejarah Islam held by Dompet Dhuafa in Cirebon, West Java, on Friday (28/10/2022). The participants were Mualafs under the guidance of Corps Dai Dompet Dhuafa (Cordofa).
In this event, Dompet Dhuafa through Cordofa invited the assisted Mualafs to travel around the Cirebon area to get to know the history of Islam in Cirebon. In addition, Dompet Dhuafa invited the participants to learn the palace’s history, by the pilgrimage to the tomb of Sunan Gunung Djati. There, they received material about exemplifying the stories of God’s guardians delivered by Fatchuri Rosyidin as Director at PT Inspirasi Melintas Zaman.
Fajar Safari Nugraha, mudir of Pesantren Mualaf Indonesia Dompet Dhuafa, said that the Rihlah Mualaf and Gerakan Cinta Sejarah Islam event was held as a gift to the Mualafs assisted by Dompet Dhuafa and Cordofa. For approximately 4 (four) years since 2017, the development of Mualafs in Dompet Dhuafa with the Indonesian Mualafs Boarding School program, Dompet Dhuafa, has never held a rihlah for its fostered Mualafs .
Apart from being a form of refreshing for Mualafs , Fajar also explained that this rihlah event also aims to add their insight and knowledge about the history of Islam that has developed in Indonesia, especially in the West Java region. Therefore, Cirebon was chosen as the destination of rihlah.
“Why is the area chosen for this rihlah Cirebon? Because as a reinforcement of their creed since our fostered Mualafs are 40% of Chinese Mualafs . One of the wives of Sunan Gunung Djati is a Chinese person, namely Putri Ong Tien,” said Fajar explaining that Chinese and Muslims have a strong role in the marriage of Sunan Gunung Djati with Princess Ong Tien.

The Mualafs who participated in this event were very happy and felt that this event was beneficial. “Alhamdullah, this program from Dompet Dhuafa is beneficial, so I learned a lot of new knowledge. Previously, I had already found out about the history of Islam. This event completes my knowledge,” said Muhammad Rahmat William Syafi’i, one of the Mualafs who converted to Islam in 2017.
William also hopes that Dompet Dhuafa can hold other programs for Mualafs in the future. So that he can be present again to add insight into Islam. “If there is an event or study from Dompet Dhuafa and the time is right for me, I will be very happy to be involved again,” William concluded.
