INCHEON, SOUTH KOREA — Amidst the hustle and bustle that surrounds the city of Incheon, South Korea, lies a remarkable and inspiring story. Al Anwar Mosque, a symbol of tolerance and diversity in a predominantly non-Muslim neighbourhood, was founded by a group of unlikely people – drunks and kids hanging out at a cafe. This story not only attracted public attention, but also created a deep admiration for Dompet Dhuafa’s Dai Ambassador in South Korea, Ustaz Ihya. He was mesmerised by the extraordinary transformation and determination of the mosque’s founders.

These drunks and night owls used to hang out in cafes every night, living a lifestyle far removed from religious teachings. However, their lives changed dramatically when one of them discovered the truth in Islam. He not only returned to the rules and laws of the religion, but also decided to share his knowledge and wisdom with his friends.

Initially, the reactions of the figure’s friends varied. They ranged from scepticism to dismissing it as a joke. However, the drunkard’s fortitude and enthusiasm in showing positive changes in his life began to gain recognition. His friends were interested in learning more about Islam, and gradually, the upstairs café where they gathered began to become a centre for religious discussions.

Along the way, the café turned into a gathering place to learn and discuss the teachings of Islam, and soon it was agreed that it would not only be a base camp, but also a mosque. The drunks who were previously known for their nightlife are now spiritual guides for many. They passionately and courageously share their knowledge of Islam, inspiring many with their life transformation.

Ustaz Ihya as a Dompet Dhuafa Ambassador assigned to preach in the Land of Gingseng could not hide his admiration. For him, this story is clear evidence that truth and goodness can be found in unexpected places. He sees in their journey not only a story of personal change, but also a clear example of the power of religion to unite people from different backgrounds.

With the support of many parties, including the Muslim community in South Korea, Al Anwar Mosque was finally built. This mosque is not only a place of worship for Muslims, but also a symbol of peace and tolerance in the midst of a pluralistic society in Incheon. This success not only bears witness to the courage and determination of the founders, but also reinforces the belief that love, understanding and tolerance can overcome differences and unite us as human beings.
