SURINAME — The Islamic congregation in Suriname has its own uniqueness. In the midst of its society, there is a belief in praying. As has been practiced by the Ngulonan congregation, the Surinamese Muslim community whose prayers face west or actually back to the Qibla.
If the Ngulonan congregation is in Indonesia, then they can be said to pray facing East. So, according to Dompet Dhuafa’s Dai Ambassador, Ustaz Achmad Fauzi, a personal and in-depth approach is needed when holding studies and discussions with the Ngulonan congregation.
“This Ramadan, I had the opportunity to hold a recitation session with the Ngulonan congregation. Religious lectures are held at the Baitu Rohmah Mosque as the center of worship activities for the Ngulonan congregation. This is a golden opportunity, because last year, the Ngulonan congregation had not received a study from Dompet Dhuafa’s Dai Ambassador,” said Ustaz Achmad Fauzi.
“Alhamdulillah, this year they have been able to receive studies from Dompet Dhuafa’s Dai Ambassadors,” he continued.

The efforts made by Dompet Dhuafa’s Dai Ambassador, Ustaz Achmad Fauzi, cannot be separated from the collaboration of kindness and cooperation with the Nurusshobri Foundation of Suriname as a partner of Dompet Dhuafa. Hopefully this initial step can increase the congregation whose prayers face the Qibla.
