DMC Dompet Dhuafa Responds to Flash Floods in Malang Regency

MALANG, EAST JAWA — Several areas in Malang Regency experienced flooding due to rainfall, last Monday (10/17/2022). Dompet Dhuafa through the Disaster Management Center (DMC) team immediately jumped in with Dompet Dhuafa East Java.

“In addition to coordinating with other SAR teams, we also collect data related to the needs of flash flood survivors at the site,” said Agus Triabudi Waloyo or who is familiarly called Jhon as the person in charge of Dompet Dhuafa East Java.

Based on the records of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Malang Regency, several areas affected by floods are Lebakharjo Village in Ampelgading District, Purowodadi Village, and Pujiharjo Village in Tirtoyudo District. Next, Sitiarjo Village, Sidoasri Village, and Tambakrejo Village in Sumbermanjing Wetan District. Then, Sumbermanjing Kulon Village in Pagak District, and Sumberoto Village in Donomulyo District.

Head of BPBD Malang Regency Nur Fuad Fauzi said, “The flood is suspected to be due to the increasing discharge of river and sea water after the rain that fell since last Sunday (16/10/2022) night. The worst flood occurred in the Sitiarjo Village area, where floods submerged residents’ homes up to 1.5 meters,” he explained.

As a result, there are at least 4 (four) hamlets in the Sitiarjo Village area isolated due to flooding, and access to Sendangbiru beach is also cut off. Through data obtained as of Sunday (10/16/2022), there were landslides that hit 5 (five) districts: Ampelgading District, Dampit District, Donomulyo District, Sumawe District, and Tirtoyudo District.

Meanwhile, overflow floods were found in Bantur District, especially in Bandungrejo Village, Sumberagung Hamlet, there were 6 (six) heads of families out of 20 people affected. Gedangan Subdistrict consists of Gajahrejo Village, Bajulmati Hamlet consists of 53 households, and 166 people are affected. Sidodadi Village, Umbulrejo Hamlet RT 13/04 and RT 14/05 there are 154 families. Then Kedung Rampal Kidul Hamlet, there are 3 (three) families affected while in Sumawe District, Kedungbanteng Village, there are irrigation canals through RT 05 to several RT 27 houses affected by water entry in 60 families.

Furthermore, Tambakrejo Village entered the RT 27 house and Sitiarjo Village was flooded with 4 (four) hamlets of approximately 50 cm – 200 cm of houses affected by 622 families to Sumberoto Village, Donomulyo District (data collection process). Then in Pandanrejo Village, Pagak District, there was an impact: fish seedlings were carried away by floods.
