Dompet Dhuafa and ROIS OJK Distribute Sacrificial Animals to Remote Areas of Papua, Maluku, and Lampung

SORONG, WEST PAPUA — Eid-ul-Adha has arrived. All Muslims in Indonesia celebrated the Eid that is synonymous with slaughtering sacrificial animals. In this great moment, Dompet Dhuafa also visited Sorong Regency, Southwest Papua, for a humanitarian mission. Namely distributing sacrificial meat from the sacrificers who channeled their kindness through the Tebar Hewan Kurban (THK) 1445 H. This time Dompet Dhuafa was present in Southwest Papua with the good partners of the Islamic Spirituality of the Financial Services Authority (ROIS OJK).

Alhamdulillah, in the implementation of Tebar Hewan Kurban this year, Dompet Dhuafa collaborated with ROIS OJK in distributing sacrificial meat to remote areas of the country. In addition to being distributed in the Sorong region, Southwest Papua, ROIS OJK’s sacrificial meat was also distributed to Buru Island, Maluku, and Lampung.

The process of slaughtering one sacrificial animal from Insan OJK was distributed at the Muhammadiyah Putri Orphanage.
The process of immobilizing the cow was dramatic, and the process of rolling the cow was carried out by several local residents.

In the Sorong area alone, Dompet Dhuafa and ROIS OJK distributed 9 cows in 8 areas. Among others on Arar Island, Warmon Kokoda, Klabinain, Margomulyo, Malasom, Maibo, and Kuruwato, which are scattered in Aimas and Mayamuk Districts, Sorong Regency, West Papua. While in Maluku, Dompet Dhuafa and ROIS OJK distributed 17 cows on Buru Island and South Buru Island, and 40 goats in Palas, South Lampung, Lampung.

The paralyzed cow was then carried to the slaughterhouse.
Local Papuans living in the Kuruwato region are enthusiastically watching the process of slaughtering sacrificial animals.

That morning, Monday (6/17/2024), as the sun rose from the horizon, the beating of the drum continued to accompany the echoing takbir. The people were preparing to perform the Eid-ul-Adha prayer. Apart from looking forward to the Eid-ul-Adha prayer once a year, they were also enthusiastic to be able to taste the delicious qurbani meat.

Yes, most of the people in Sorong Regency can only taste qurbani meat once a year. They, who mostly work as farmers, planters, fishermen, and coral stone collectors, were very happy when they could finally enjoy qurbani meat from Dompet Dhuafa’s Qurbani Animal Distribution Program.

In addition to distributing to indigenous Papuans and local residents, qurbani meat is also distributed to several institutions, such as converts and orphanages.
A smile was etched on Basri Alkatiri’s face, one of the beneficiaries of the Tebar Hewan Kurban (THK) program in Kuruwato, Mayamuk District, Sorong Regency, Southwest Papua.

Yoni Dwi Prasetyo as the Monitoring and Evaluation Team of the ROIS OJK Sacrificial Animal Stocking Program revealed that this collaboration of kindness came about thanks to the helping hands of OJK personnel who wanted to sacrifice. For the THK Program itself, ROIS OJK handed over IDR 512,850,000. The 3T region and the equitable distribution of sacrificial meat are the reasons why ROIS OJK distributes its sacrificial animals in the Southwest Papua, Maluku and Lampung regions. This act of kindness is also an effort by Dompet Dhuafa and ROIS OJK to distribute sacrificial meat evenly to remote areas.

“This year ROIS OJK wants to distribute the cattle in the 3T area, where Sorong Regency in Southwest Papua is one of the 3T areas that still needs beef. Because, based on IDEAS data, the meat stock in the Papua region is still low, even still in deficit. We also want the qurbani meat to be enjoyed by our brothers and sisters who have not been able to enjoy qurbani meat in the past year or two,” said Yoni.

The children were also enthusiastic about receiving the qurbani meat.

In fact, there were some people who were unable to enjoy qurbani meat, but they still celebrated Eid al-Adha with enthusiasm. They chanted takbir and performed Eid-ul-Adha prayers without getting qurbani meat. In fact, this moment is the highlight of Eid-ul-Adha, which is enjoying the qurbani meat.

Dompet Dhuafa and ROIS OJK distributed nine cows to eight areas spread across Sorong Regency, West Papua, Buru Island, Maluku and Lampung.
Sohibah Simoro, a middle-aged woman who is often called Mamak Sohibah, happily welcomed the 2024 Qurbani Animal Distribution Program in her area.

In 2024, Dompet Dhuafa held a Qurbani Animal Distribution Program with a guarantee of success through the concept of 3 Certainty; Certainly Male, Certainly Passed Quality Control, and Certainly Distributed to Remote Areas of the Country. This concept is a strong foundation for Dompet Dhuafa to organize effective distribution of sacrificial animals in Indonesia and abroad. Ensuring that the benefits are #AlwaysDelivered to the beneficiaries in need.

Sohibah Simoro, a middle-aged woman who is often called Mamak Sohibah, also felt the benefits of this program. She welcomed and was happy for the Tebar Hewan Kurban 2024 program. She, who works as a kale farmer, admitted that she was very grateful to be able to taste qurbani meat again.

“We are here, Mamak, thank you. Alhamdulillah, we can taste this qurbani. Three times, we can eat. Today and the day after tomorrow, we can eat meat. Here, Mamak, in this small village of Kuruwato, thank you again for donating the animals. Usually, we only eat meat once a year, but on the day of qurbani, we can eat meat. I usually buy fish, and my mom pushes me to buy fish and bring it home so I can eat it. I thank you again here, I’m happy because it’s delicious to get meat, because I can help people eat. It tastes good!” she said happily.

Of course, Dompet Dhuafa hopes that the collaboration with Insan OJK will not stop here. Hopefully Dompet Dhuafa can maintain this collaboration for years to come, so that the ideals to broadcast goodness for the benefit of the people can continue to be realized. This includes the moment of Eid al-Adha and other collaborative programs that will be implemented. (Dompet Dhuafa)
