JAKARTA — Illustrator and social activist, Chiki Fawzi, once again stole the attention with her latest collection that is full of meaning. This time through Chikigo – a fashion brand founded by Chiki Fawzi in 2020, she works together with Dompet Dhuafa in an inspiring collaboration to present an exclusive fashion collection made from Klaten Lurik. This latest collection was showcased at the prestigious International Modest Fashion Festival (IN2MF) 2024 which took place from 30 October to 3 November 2024 at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC).
With the theme ‘Elevating Sustainable Modest Fashion to the Global Stage! Step Into The Future of Fashion’, IN2MF 2024 became a stage for designers to showcase their best works. Chiki Fawzi and Dompet Dhuafa saw this opportunity as a platform to convey humanitarian messages, support the struggle for Palestinian independence, as well as support the archipelago’s wastra for the world.
Not without reason, besides having the beauty of a distinctive motif, this lurik fabric is also a symbol of community empowerment. The Klaten lurik used in this collection is the work of Dompet Dhuafa’s fostered residents, thus contributing to improving their standard of living.
‘Well, these latest illustrations I made were inspired by events that happened. For example, the fallen journalists in Gaza, the watermelon symbol, slogans of resistance and independence, and others. Through fashion, we can voice messages of peace and solidarity,’ says Ikang Fawzi’s second daughter meaningfully.
‘I want to show that fashion is not just a trend, but can also be a medium to convey positive messages and have a social impact. What’s interesting and I really like this time is the combination of Chikigo with Klaten lurik,’ she added.
With the same vision, Dompet Dhuafa welcomes the synergy. The concern to alleviate poverty through empowerment and support for Palestine is a step that can expand concrete actions and benefits.
‘Starting from the zakat funds channeled by muzakki through Dompet Dhuafa, now making Klaten Lurik mustahik become independent and empowered,’ said Suci N. Qadarsih as GM Marketing Communication of Dompet Dhuafa who was also present at IN2MF 2024, Friday (01/11/2024).

Chiki Fawzi’s latest collection for IN2MF 2024 features modern designs that still emphasise socio-humanitarian values. Every detail in the garments has a deep meaning, including the use of her illustrations and Palestinian motifs as a form of support for the country’s struggle for independence.
‘Besides being inspired by Palestine, this latest collection is also inspired by the late Marissa Haque, my mother. Actually, I wanted to make some of these latest works for my mum. But qadarullah, my mother passed away when this artwork was not finished,’ added Chiki, remembering her beloved late mother who passed away on 2 October 2024.
The spirit of kindness was contagious. Support from Chiki Fawzi’s relatives also flooded in. Bella Fawzi (Chiki Fawzi’s older sister), Soraya and Shahnaz Haque (Marissa Haque’s late sister), Elsya Sandria (Chiki’s best friend), and other relatives willingly brought Chikigo’s latest collection to the fashion show stage. Chiki’s father, Ikang Fawzi, was also present and accompanied his beloved son to work that afternoon.
IN2MF 2024 is not only a fashion show, but also a platform to bring together designers, fashion industry players, and fashion lovers from various countries. With the theme of sustainability and simplicity, IN2MF 2024 is expected to encourage the development of a more responsible and valuable fashion industry.
