VIETNAM — Alhamdulillah, on Thursday (27/06/2024), coinciding with 21 Zulhijah 1445 H, the First Stone Laying of the Salamad Indonesia Mosque was carried out in Long Xuyen City, An Giang Province, Vietnam. This activity was carried out by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Prof. Muhadjir Effendy, Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam Denny Abdi, Humanitarian Forum Indonesia (HFI), Dompet Dhuafa, Rumah Zakat, DT Peduli, and Human Initiative.

The mosque, which will be built on an area of 132 square meters with a height of four floors, is a donation or waqf from Mrs. Thi Ri Yah (86) who has inhabited the land for several generations. Later, the Salamad Indonesia Mosque will be utilized by the Muslim community in Long Xuyen, which currently numbers approximately 300 people. The mosque area will consist of a parking area, transit area, mosque, and madrasah that can be used by the surrounding community.

Dian Mulyadi as Corporate Secretary as well as General Manager of Communication and Information Technology of Dompet Dhuafa expressed his gratitude, because to this day the community and the government continue to believe in Dompet Dhuafa as an Islamic philanthropic organization to be involved in the development of the people. This includes the construction of the Salamad Indonesia Mosque in Long Xuyen City, Vietnam.

The construction of this mosque was initiated by the Coordinating Minister for PMK and the Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam during a visit to Long Xuyen in 2022. After the visit, the idea of building the mosque was discussed by the Coordinating Minister for PMK and the leaders of charity organizations in the country. As a result, the Humanitarian Forum Indonesia (HFI) encouraged the collaboration of four institutions to be involved, namely Dompet Dhuafa, Rumah Zakat, DT Peduli, and Human Initiative.

In his speech, Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam Denny Abdi expressed his high appreciation for the involvement of Islamic philanthropic organizations from Indonesia. Because, their concern and involvement can realize a mosque for the Muslim community in Long Xuyen which has not had a place of worship for the last 10 years.

Prof. Muhadjir Effndy said that Indonesia welcomes the aspirations of the Muslim community in South Vietnam. He also thanked the Indonesian people for their support through fundraising by Islamic philanthropic organizations incorporated in HFI which has also been conveyed to the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo. The President welcomed the construction of the Salamad Indonesia Mosque which was realized thanks to collaboration between Islamic philanthropic institutions, so that it could also strengthen diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Vietnam.
