JAKARTA — Ahead of Eid al-Adha 1444 Hijri, Dompet Dhuafa has tightened supervision of livestock for sacrifice. Through Dompet Dhuafa Farm (DD Farm), Dompet Dhuafa provides 3 (three) types of bahimatul an’am or livestock for the Sacrificial Animal Stocking (THK) program, namely cows, sheep, and goats.
Dompet Dhuafa Farm is an integrated farm managed by involving the local farming community. Now, Dompet Dhuafa Farm has as many as ten livestock centers spread across 5 (five) regions on the island of Sumatra and five on the island of Java. The distribution points include North Sumatra, South Sumatra, Riau, West Sumatra, Lampung, Banten, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, and East Java.
For THK 1444 H/2023 M, DD Farm cages prepared 7,647 sacrificial animals, both cattle and sheep/goats (doka). In detail, the availability of sacrificial animals is in DD Farm Waspada (Sumut) as many as 550 heads. In DD Farm Riau as many as 360 heads, DD Farm South Sumatra as many as 21 heads, DD Farm Lampung as many as 300 heads, DD Farm Banten as many as 1,170 heads, DD Farm Central Java as many as 1,316 heads, DD Farm East Java as many as 1,550 heads, DD Farm West Java as many as 650 heads, DD Farm DIY as many as 1,520 heads, and DD Farm Singgalang (West Sumatra) as many as 180 heads.

In fact, since April, the central THK Dompet Dhuafa Team has begun to intensively visit DD Farm cages to supervise the sacrificial animals.
“Currently, the THK Team has begun to move to supervise sacrificial animals in each DD Farm,” said Dwi Tanty Kurnianingtyas, the SO of Dompet Dhuafa’s Leading Economic Empowerment, on Wednesday (17/5/2023), in Jakarta.
Tanty explained that DD Farm’s preparation in providing sacrificial animals has been going on throughout the year. For example, after the implementation of THK 2022, each DD Farm immediately separated the animals and carried out breeding which will be projected as sacrificial animals in THK 2023.
At the feeder procurement stage, DD Farm carried out several strategies, namely partnering with sheep feeder suppliers from outside the DD Farm area and buying feeders from DD Farm-assisted plasma farmers. Every feeder brought to DD Farm is ensured in advance the quality of the feed so that it can produce quality sacrificial animals. At the maintenance stage, DD Farm involves the recipient of the sacrificial animal (mustahik) around the cage.

In addition, DD Farm also involves small community-based plasma farmers in the vicinity for the breeding process. The scheme is that plasma breeders are given capital in the form of cages, ten broods and one male. Then, DD Farm provides capacity building for plasma farmers to care for the brood and males, resulting in quality feeders. DD Farm will then purchase the supply produced by plasma farmers.
In addition to increasing animal supplies, the concept of livestock plasma networks has also succeeded in helping to improve the economy of small farmers. This point is also the advantage of sacrifice in Dompet Dhuafa, which contributes to the welfare of small farmers in the region.
“In addition to earning income, the recipient of the sacrificial animal (mustahik) and plasma farmers can also increase their capacity in the livestock sector. Improving the welfare of small farmers is an important part of the objectives of the THK Dompet Dhuafa program,” he said.
Through DD Farm, Dompet Dhuafa can better control and ensure that these animals are suitable for sacrifice according to Islamic law. That way, the donors (mudhohi) who entrust their sacrifices in Dompet Dhuafa are increasingly convinced that their worship is legitimate and beneficial for many people.

DD Farm itself has firmness in applying the requirements for animals worthy of sacrifice. The animal must be old enough (cow-buffalo aged two years; sheep aged six months; goat aged one year) and healthy (not deformed/limping legs/sick/thin/small).
Meanwhile, to ensure that the animals are suitable for sacrifice, DD Farm has a technicality, namely conducting quality control (QC) 2 times before slaughter. The quality control process includes looking at the condition of the livestock (healthy/sick) and then weighing the body weight to match the specs of Dompet Dhuafa Sacrificial Animal Stocking (THK).
Tanty added another advantage of sacrificing in Dompet Dhuafa is the distribution of its reach, which is so vast to remote areas. For example, in THK 2022, Dompet Dhuafa succeeded in distributing sacrificial animals to Indonesians in the easternmost region, namely on the border between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea in Pikere District, East Arso District, Keerom Regency, Papua.
“The quality of livestock is controlled, it is a pilot/model of efficient livestock rearing, and most importantly, the management of DD Farm involves mustahik. In addition to earning monthly income, DD Farm is a place to increase mustahik capacity in the livestock sector. So that mustahik can manage their livestock when they are ready,” concluded Tanty.
