Meanwhile, the definition of Gen Z in this report is men and women aged between 15 and 24 years old in 2022. Gen Z is divided into two categories, namely late teens aged between 15 and 20 years old and young adults aged between 21 and 24 years old.

The Indonesia Millennials and Gen Z Report 2022 mentions that for Gen Z, religion plays a bigger role when compared to tradition. Their strong belief in religion also significantly influences their decision to give to charity and participate in philanthropic activities. According to a report by IDN Research Institute, during 2022, 62 percent of millennials and 58 percent of Gen Z in Indonesia have participated in fundraising activities with varying levels of frequency. This data shows a significant increase when compared to 2019.

Despite the high engagement rate of millennials and Gen Z in fundraising activities, only 13 percent of millennials and 12 percent of Gen Z donate through online platforms. Thus, it means that donations among this generation are still mostly done physically. However, 13 percent and 12 percent are not small numbers when compared to the findings in 2019. This figure is actually a big increase from IDN Research Institute’s findings in 2019, where only 2.7 percent of millennials and Gen Z donated through online platforms. The popularity of online donation platforms has skyrocketed since the Covid-19 pandemic hit Indonesia. During this time, the acceleration of digitalization occurred, because many people needed help, but physical meetings were limited.
