The distribution of waqf insurance benefits is Generali Indonesia‘s commitment to fulfill the customers’ trust in waqf through sharia life insurance products. Waqf insurance benefits are a number of funds sourced from the Tabarru’ Fund or a collection of funds derived from participant contributions which is later handed over to the designated party to receive them. The waqf of insurance benefits is also a benefit feature contained in sharia life insurance products.
Generali Indonesia has been running a sharia business unit and presenting a variety of sharia life insurance products since 2017 which currently continues to show positive growth. Based on unaudited Generali data in the 3rd quarter of 2022, the contribution revenue grew 28% (yoy) with a growth in tabarru funds of 263% (yoy) compared to the same period in the previous year. The growth of Generali’s sharia business unit is also in line with the growth of industrial premium income from sharia business units which recorded a growth of 14.4% (yoy).
During the ceremonial session, Arry added, “With a Muslim-majority community coupled with growing awareness of the importance of insurance and sharing, this is one of the reasons why our Sharia business unit continues to grow. On this occasion, we would like to thank you for the trust of customers who have entrusted their protection and waqf intentions to Generali Indonesia. We hope that the distribution of waqf insurance benefits will further open many eyes that the intention of waqf does not have to be with a large nominal, such as buildings or land, but can also be obtained from sharia insurance products which of course also provide life and health protection.”
On the other hand, the optimization of Islamic finance, especially waqf, has an important role for a sustainable economy, one of which plays a role in improving the socio-economy of the society, especially for post-pandemic recovery. Reporting from Sistem Informasi Wakaf or SIWAK (Waqf Information System) of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, that the potential for cash waqf in Indonesia reaches Rp180 trillion per year, which can be distributed in the form of cash waqf.
“Through sharia life insurance products, we want to be part of Indonesia’s economic growth where all people can get the same opportunities and enjoy the best services in line with Generali’s vision – enable people to shape a safer future by caring for their lives and dreams,” Arry added.
On the same occasion, Bobby P. Manulang said, “As one of Dompet Dhuafa‘s partners, this is not the first time Generali Indonesia has distributed waqf insurance benefits. Previously, we jointly distributed waqf in the form of pipanization of springs and the construction of Mandi Cuci Kakus or MCK (toilets) facilities in Cirebon Regency. Today is very special, because Dompet Dhuafa for the first time received waqf in the form of an ambulance from Generali Indonesia. Thanks to Generali Indonesia who continues to entrust Dompet Dhuafa as a customers’ waqf distributor. This trust will continue to encourage us to keep developing productive waqf for the benefit of the people.”
Until today, Generali has distributed more than IDR 1 billion waqf insurance benefits through various nazhirs, one of which is Dompet Dhuafa. Together with Dompet Dhuafa as well, Generali Indonesia will continue to expand its reach so that more and more people can get benefits from sharia life insurance.
