ACEH TAMIANG, NAD — Dompet Dhuafa through the Disaster Management Center (DMC) conducted an assessment and monitoring of the floods that occurred in Muka Sungai Kuruk Village, Seruway, Aceh Tamiang, to respond to the floods that occurred on Monday (14/10/2024).
Dompet Dhuafa’s DMC volunteer, Ibnu, reported that in the meantime the community stayed at the location or took refuge in the homes of residents who were not affected.
“Currently, the water condition is still inundating residential areas, and the water is still flowing fast. Currently, the water level reaches 60-140 cm,” reported Ibnu in the field.
The Aceh Tamiang Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) noted that the worst flooding occurred in the coastal area of Pekan Seruway due to the collapse of a 20-meter river embankment.

Of the total 2,066 evacuees, 479 of them came from Pekan Seruway Village. They were housed at Post 6 of the Seruway Fire Department, while others took refuge in the homes of relatives who were not affected by the flood.
“We predict that the water level will continue to rise, because there is still rain in the upstream area. So, the potential for sending floods will remain high,” said Pj Regent Tamiang Asra.
Therefore, currently, Tamiang’s Pj Regent Asra is conducting an analysis to increase the status of the flood disaster to an emergency response.
In addition to the initial assessment, Dompet Dhuafa DMC also established a Warm Post and Public Kitchen service for flood survivors located in Muka Sungai Kuruk Village, Seruway, Aceh Tamiang. This service has been ongoing since Tuesday (10/15/2024).

The Warm Post presented by DMC Dompet Dhuafa provides a variety of hot drinks and food that are ready to be served quickly to people affected by flooding. The presence of this service certainly provides comfort for victims who are in difficult situations.
“Currently, an assessment and field review of the impact of the Aceh Tamiang flood is also being carried out, as well as planning community assistance with the warm post program and public kitchen. Further needs will be informed after the assessment results,” said Maizar Helmi, DMC Dompet Dhuafa Emergency Response, Recovery and Volunteer Staff.
This is part of the emergency response carried out by the Dompet Dhuafa DMC Team to help meet the basic needs of refugees or disaster victims who have been affected by flooding.
Let’s reach out to help the survivors together. Each of our small actions can make a big difference in their lives. (Dompet Dhuafa)
