EAST FLORES, EAST NUSA TENGGARA — Ten people died and more than 10 thousand people in 7 villages were affected by the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Male in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The eruption occurred on Monday (04/11/2024) in the early morning.
The eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 47.3 mm and a duration of ± 24 minutes 10 seconds. Currently, three airports on Flores Island are closed and the volcano with an altitude of 1,584 meters above sea level (masl) has alert status or level IV as of November 3, 2024.
Dompet Dhuafa through the Disaster Management Center (DMC) responded quickly to the incident and deployed DMC volunteers in NTT. Based on the results of a temporary basic assessment by the DMC team, Tuesday (05/11/2024), it was reported that five schools were damaged and the total number of refugees to date is approximately 1,200 people.
“We are still exploring the assessment data and are still experiencing electricity difficulties. For the results of the assessment, the current emergency needs are food, medicine, pampers, sanitary napkins, as well as clothing,” said Muhidur, Dompet Dhuafa’s DMC response team in NTT.
“We are also assessing the location of the evacuation sites to set up public kitchen services and warming posts tomorrow,” Muhidur added.
Based on data from BPBD of East Flores Regency informed by: PUSDALOPS BNPB, the East Flores Regency Government has extended the emergency alert status of the Mount Lewotobi Male disaster until December 31, 2024. Currently, the people of Dulipali Village, Ile Bura Subdistrict, and the people and government of Lewolaga Village, Titehena Subdistrict, have prepared a school as an evacuation site.
