Makassar, South Sulawesi—High-intensity rain poured down on Makassar City on Sunday (12/2/2023), so that it drowned a number of housing estates that made residents have to be evacuated. A total of 8 districts and 24 sub-districts were flooded and 2,929 residents were displaced. There are approximately 88 puddle points. There are 37 evacuation points that have been established.
Based on data from Badan Penanggulangan Bencana Daerah or BPBD (Regional Disaster Management Agency) Makassar, until Saturday (11/2/2023), at 08.00 PM WITA, as many as 8 districts were affected by floods, they were Manggala, Mamajang, Ujung Pandang, Makassar, Tamalanrea, Biringkanaya, Rappocini and Tallo Districts.
“The impact of the flood that occurred today was 8 districts and 24 sub-districts were drowned by floods,” said the Head of BPBD Makassar, Achmad Hendra Hakamuddin, Monday (13/02/2023) night quoted from CNN.
As for the urgent needs of survivors today are mineral water, ready-to-eat food, blankets, hygiene kits, and anti-itch medicines. Dompet Dhuafa South Sulawesi through the Disaster Management Center (DMC) of Dompet Dhuafa and Respons Darurat Kesehatan or RDK (the Health Emergency Response) of Layanan Kesehatan Cuma-cuma or LKC (Free Health Services) of Dompet Dhuafa sent a team to help accelerate the handling of flood impacts in Makassar City.

Until now (14/02/2023), Dompet Dhuafa has been actively evacuating at various points in Makassar City such as on Jl. Veteran Selatan, and on Jl. Adhyaksa Baru. In addition, the team has also opened a Public Kitchen on Jl. Adhyaksa Baru and has distributed ready-to-eat food at the Nurul Hikma Mosque, Toraja Masale Church, and Dahlia Posyandu. As many as 155 people were helped by the existence of the Dompet Dhuafa Public Kitchen.
“On Monday (13/02/2023), Dompet Dhuafa evacuated two adults and three toddlers on Jl. Veteran Selatan, Makassar City, then early in the morning (14/02/2023) the Dompet Dhuafa team evacuated a resident of Toa Daeng III who was heavily pregnant to Daya Hospital after receiving information from Call Center 112 Makassar City,” explained Syarif as the response team of DMC Dompet Dhuafa South Sulawesi reported from the site.

Until late at night, the Dompet Dhuafa response team has evacuated elderly residents affected by the Makassar flood at BTN Kodam III Paccerakkang, Katimbang Sub-district, Biringkanaya District. Dompet Dhuafa South Sulawesi also opened a post on Jl. AP. Pettarani No. 33 Ruko 24, Makassar City.
“The plan is that we will continue to be ready to help evacuate, distribute ready-to-eat food, open Warm Posts and open Health Service Actions,” concluded Syarif.
