DELI SERDANG, NORTH SUMATERA — Back to knocking one door to another on Thursday (03/11/2022) in Pagar Merbau Village, Pagar Merbau District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra. This time, Dompet Dhuafa Waspada knocked on the door of Rini’s house, a broomstick tie worker. Rini has long been the backbone of the family to support her four children.
Since her husband left her, her eldest son could not bear to see her work alone. “It was right when the father was gone, that year he also stopped going to school,” said Rini, a housewife and the backbone of the family.
In order to help his mother, his eldest son was willing to work as a laborer in a brick factory. “Because at that time his younger siblings were also in school, it took a lot of money,” Rini added.
So far, Rini has only received a wage of 35 thousand in one day. With such a nominal amount, she divides it for food and her children’s school needs.
Rini said that their daily meals are uncertain. “We just eat what we can eat, as long as the children can go to school,” she said.
The sacrifice of her eldest son to help the family’s finances is also not what Rini wanted. However, she cannot deny that the family’s economy is also helped by her eldest son working.
Her eldest son said it was okay for him to quit school as long as his younger siblings could finish school. Being one of the beneficiaries of the door knock makes Rini so grateful.
Because lately she has not worked because there are no sticks to process when the rainy season arrives. The Mustahik Door Knocking Program is still running and opens opportunities for anyone who wants to share.
Dompet Dhuafa Waspada Branch Manager, Sulaiman, said that as much as we can help mustahik so that they can eat. “Through the Mustahik Door Knocking program, we help them eat for one month, the hope is that they will no longer think about what to eat in the next month”.
To participate in this program, you can come directly to the Dompet Dhuafa Waspada office or contact 081262006967. (Dompet Dhuafa / Waspada)
