TURKIYE – The massive earthquake that struck Turkiye, Syria and its surrounding areas on Monday (6/2/2023), has killed thousands of lives. This 7.8-magnitude earthquake occurred in Kahramanmaras Province, Gaziantep, Osmaniye. The tremor was felt in parts of Cyprus, Greece, Jordan, Iraq, Armenia, Georgia and Lebanon.

Dompet Dhuafa made various efforts to respond quickly to this event, one of which was through the Disaster Management Center (DMC) organ. Launched from Instagram @ddtvofficial, currently the field team has arrived at the scene to prepare logistics and conduct assessment of field needs directly. Based on the available information, there are a number of areas where roads are inaccessible due to being severely damaged and are closed by the government.

“Alhamdulillah, in shaa Allah, our volunteers have arrived there to prepare logistics and assessment of field needs. Dompet Dhuafa and DMC will start the journey from Adana area to Hatay. Next, we’ll look at the situation in the scene, and hopefully we will get access to enter the Gaziantep area,” said Diba, a volunteer of Dompet Dhuafa.

Through Dompet Dhuafa and DMC’s Instagram live broadcast, Wednesday (8/2/2023), Diba also said that she was now in the Adana area. This area is one of the locations affected by the earthquake which is quite safe. She also said that until now no Indonesian citizen (WNI) had been killed.

“All affected areas in Turkey have difficulty in mobilizing to the affected areas, making it difficult to get to, including the Gaziantep area. According to the information obtained, to enter the Hatay area, the queue is also very long,” explained Diba.

The plan of Dompet Dhuafa team, according to what Diba conveyed, was to carry out the assessment of the affected locations and logistical preparations that were still in line. The aid provided included blankets – as Turkey was entering winter until 4 celsius degrees – tents, emergency kits which were a very urgent item in this condition, because besides earthquakes, one of the things faced by the earthquake survivors was the weather.

In addition, Diba also conveyed information about the health team that would also be departed.

“Later, there will be two phases of departure for the Dompet Dhuafa team that moves to respond to this disaster. The initial phase, which is the scene assessment team to share information, both location and so on, which has now reached the location point. Then the second, the health service team that Insyaallah will depart under the coordinator of the Ministry of Health in the near future.”
