SOUTH TANGERANG — Dompet Dhuafa continues to innovate and strive to have a wider impact in managing productive waqf. Dompet Dhuafa has been running productive waqf management in various sectors, one of which is education. Waqf assets in the field of education continue to grow from year to year.
This time, Dompet Dhuafa’s productive waqf assets in the education sector, which include Al Syukro Universal Islamic College, Khadijah Learning Center, SMART Cibinong School, and STIM Budi Bakti, handed over the surplus from waqf management totaling Rp2,934,397,882 or Rp2.9 billion. The management of these productive waqf assets has successfully recorded a surplus, which means that it will provide wider benefits to the community.
The handover of productive waqf surplus from each institution to Dompet Dhuafa was held at Wisma Al Syukro Universal, Ciputat, South Tangerang, Banten on Thursday (05/09/2024). Also present at this handover agenda were Iqbal as GM of Dompet Dhuafa Waqf Development, Asep Hendriana as Chairperson of MPP Education, Lily Zulaeha as Director of Umar Usman Business Campus, Abdul Kodir as Director of Smart Cibinong School, Abdul Khalim Director of Great Edunesia, Cici Kurniasih as Director of Al Syukro Islamic College, and Rina Fatimah as Chairperson of STIM Budi Bakti.

On this occasion, Lily Zulaeha also presented the annual report of Khadijah Learning Center management. She mentioned that in the future, her office will make more efforts to increase the waqf surplus target in 2025, which is Rp223,931,246. These efforts include making improvements to the building facilities, expanding the reach of offline promotions, optimizing parking facilities, and facilitating rentals for various activities such as graduations, weddings, and others.
“We will try to improve the building by repainting it and making the fence wall more open so that it does not seem rigid and closed. In addition, we will try to convert empty land for parking facilities, and optimize building rental for various activities. This is because we have a surplus target next year of Rp257,520,933,” said Lily.
This strategy is also agreed by Cici Kurniasih, that the management of waqf assets at Al Syukro Universal Islamic University must be carried out optimally with the management of human resources and investment in other business units to increase capital. Thus, this year’s waqf surplus of Rp1,832,617,595 can be obtained purely from the management of tuition fees and the distribution of surplus worth Rp632,250,263 to provide educational scholarships for 10-13 students of Al-Syukro Junior and Senior High School.
“Alhamdulillah, this year the surplus has increased by 100 percent. This is obtained from the management of the education side as well as various business management in waqf assets such as canteens, student shuttle management, then catering, as well as business units in the field of providing goods and other services that will be added and improved in the future,” said Cici.

This spirit of increasing waqf surplus is also carried out by the managing partner of Sekolah Smart Cibinong (SSC), Abdul Kodir. He said that there is a significant increase in the number of student applicants at SSC, especially for high school students whose growth is increasing. Therefore, to optimize this, SSC’s managing partner is trying to be able to complete the construction of the high school building, which previously numbered only two, it is hoped that next year during the admission of new students it can increase to four buildings.
The increase in waqf surplus obtained by SSC amounted to IDR125,598,778, which is expected to increase further with efforts to improve several school facilities, waterways, and the boundary wall between the school and residents.
On the other hand, there is the educational waqf asset of STIM Budi Bakti which also seeks to optimize the development of waqf assets in the future. The activation of productive waqf in educational waqf assets at STIM Budi Bakti is realized through a building lease scheme. On this occasion, Rina Fatimah as the Chairperson of STIM Budi Bakti handed over the building rental profit worth Rp120 million.
To all Education Program Implementing Partners, Asep Hendriana as the Chairperson of MPP Education reminded that with this excellent achievement of the waqf surplus of R p2.9 billion, it can provide fair welfare for its managers, and provide more positive impacts for education waqf assets.
Iqbal as GM of Waqf Development hoped that in the future this waqf surplus can be increased as an effort to make waqf assets more productive, and can be fairly distributed according to statutory provisions.

“As stipulated by the law, the surplus of waqf will be used for the nazir’s share of 10 percent, then 40 percent will be used for development. And 50 percent is used for mauqufalaih. Well, the mauqufalaih ideally has five pillars of programs, namely education, health, economy, social, da’wah and culture. However, the managing partners will usually submit proposals, both for development plans and mauqufalaih distribution plans that we will review,” concluded Iqbal.
The success of Dompet Dhuafa’s productive waqf management in the field of education reinforces that productivity-oriented management strategies can contribute to improving the quality of education in Indonesia. (Dompet Dhuafa)
