Definition of Eid Al-Adha Prayer
Eid al-Adha comes from the word id, which means to return, while the word Adha means to sacrifice. The Eid al-Adha prayer is a two-cycle (two-rakaat) sunnah prayer performed on the 10th of Dhū al-Ḥijjah every year, after the Hajj or the last month of the Hijri calendar. Worship is carried out to celebrate Eid al-Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice.
Eid al-Adha prayers have differences with prayers that are usually done daily. This worship is marked by performing two cycles (rakaat) prayers in the congregation. Its implementation is also accompanied by a sermon delivered by the imam or khatib to the congregation after the completion of the id prayer.

Eid Al-Adha Prayer Law and Its Virtues
In the following, we will discuss the law of the Eid al-Adha prayer and its virtues with some Qur’anic postulates and hadiths on which to be based.
Eid al-Adha prayer law
Friend, we must understand the Eid prayer law and its virtues in Islam. This prayer has the sunnah law of muakkadah, which is highly recommended for every Muslim who has reached puberty and is sensible. The basis of the argument that forms the basis of the law of the Eid al-Adha prayer is found in the Quran and the hadith of the Prophet SAW.
The Qur’anic proposition that is the legal basis for the Eid al-Adha prayer is found in Surah Al-Kautsar verses 2-3. Allah Almighty says, “Then perform prayers for your Rabb and sacrifice.” This verse illustrates the importance of performing Eid prayers and sacrificing as a form of devotion to Allah Almighty.
The hadith that supports the law of Eid al-Adha prayer is the hadith of um ‘Athiyyah, “The Prophet (peace be upon him) ordered us at the time of ‘id prayers (Eid al-Fitr or Eid al-Adha) to exclude girls (who have just grown up) and women who are being guarded for some reasons (pingit), as well as women who are menstruating. But he ordered menstruating women to stay away from places of prayer” (HR. Muslim).
In another hadith from Talha Bin Ubaidillah, when a man came asking the Prophet (peace be upon him) about Islam, the Prophet replied: “Pray five times every day and night, then the man asked again: Is there anything else that is required for me? He replied: No unless you do the sunnah.” (HR. Bukhari and Muslim).

The virtues of Eid al-Adha prayers
Here are some of the virtues of performing Eid al-Adha prayers that can be lighter so that we are more motivated to carry out Eid al-Adha prayers earnestly and solemnly.
1. Be loved by Allah Almighty
In a hadith from Ibn ‘Abbas Radhiyallahu ‘anhuma (“may Allah be pleased with him”), Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “There is no day on which pious deeds at that time are more beloved by Allah than these days, namely: ten days from the month of Dhū al-Ḥijjah. Did they ask: O Messenger of Allah, not going to war for God’s will (jihad fi sabilillah)? He replied: neither is jihad fi sabilillah, except for one who goes out (jihad) with his soul and property and then does not return with anything.” (HR. Imam Bukhari).
2. Eliminated sin for the past year and a year to come
One of the other virtues of the Eid al-Adha prayer is as a completion of the sacrificial service, as well as a remover of sins a year ago and a year to come if the previous day (9 Dhū al-Ḥijjah) we observe the fast of the sunnah of Arafat.
“Arafah’s fasting (9 Dhū al-Ḥijjah) can eliminate sin a year ago and a year to come. Asyura fasting (10 Muharram) will eliminate sin a year ago.” (HR Muslim).

3. Obtain multiple rewards
In a hadith, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “There are no days that Allah prefers to worship than the first ten days of the month of Dhū al-Ḥijjah. One day of fasting in it is equivalent to one year of fasting. One night of setting up evening prayers is equivalent to praying on the Night of Power (Lailat al-Qadr).” (HR At-Tirmidhi).
The Eid al-Adha prayer service is included in the hadith, which is held every year on the 10th of Dhū al-Ḥijjah.
The virtue of Eid al-Adha prayers is also reflected in the meaning and purpose of this worship. Eid al-Adha prayer is a form of gratitude and respect to Allah SWT for His blessings, as well as commemorating a significant event in Islamic history, namely the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (as). To sacrifice his son, Prophet Ismail (as), as a form of extraordinary obedience.
