TANGERANG — The Indonesian Disaster Management Squad (PBI), BASARNAS Jakarta, and Dompet Dhuafa’s Disaster Management Center (DMC) organized a Collapse Structure Search and Rescue (CSSR) training for potential SAR communities in Jabodetabek. The training was conducted from Wednesday (6/9/2023) to Saturday (9/9/2023) at the BASARNAS Jakarta Office, Selapajang Village, Neglasari District, Tangerang City.
Dozens of potential SAR Jabodetabek participants, including active members of the Squad PBI, a network of disaster relief volunteers in Indonesia, attended the event. The event received support from various disaster management agencies and SAR potentials, such as Sabhawana, DT Peduli, Baznas Bazis DKI Jakarta, Tanggap Bencana Indonesia, and RHC.
The training commenced with an opening ceremony on Thursday (7/9/2023), led by the Head of BASARNAS Jakarta, Fazzli. It combined theoretical approaches, simulations, and practical exercises, encompassing disaster scenarios that could occur in urban environments.

The participants are expected to develop the skills and knowledge needed to effectively respond to disaster or emergency incidents in urban environments, often characterized by high-rise buildings.
“It is crucial for the Jakarta SAR Office to conduct trainings for the community to provide assistance. It is hoped that, in addition to BASARNAS, other organizational institutions and the community can offer SAR assistance, especially for collapse structure emergencies,” concluded Fazzli, Head of the Jakarta SAR Office, in his speech.
“I am pleased with the conduct of this technical guidance, especially acknowledging the full participation of Dompet Dhuafa and all the SAR potentials of Jabodetabek involved, which made this activity possible,” he added.

Consequently, the participants can collaboratively build a more robust capability to face emergency challenges in both urban and rural areas.
The training encompassed CSSR operational standards, equipment introduction, creation and mapping of search points, understanding different types of collapsed buildings, rescue techniques, and simulations.
“The vision and mission of DMC Dompet Dhuafa are a mandate from our donors and strategic stakeholders to respond to disaster incidents at local, national, regional, and global levels. Thus, we are grateful to collaborate with BASARNAS Jakarta,” said Arif Rahmadi Haryono, Chief Executive of DMC Dompet Dhuafa, during a break time in the training.

“This is a lesson we learned while responding to the earthquake in Turkey-Syria. Helping people requires knowledge and recognition (certification). Hopefully, this training will enable us to provide assistance at a global or international level,” continued Arif.
The CSSR training is crucial, considering the presence of high-rise buildings in Indonesia and globally, which are a community concern. In the event of natural disasters, such as earthquakes, there is fear that these buildings could collapse, leading to casualties. Hence, it is vital for SAR potentials to have the knowledge and skills, trained directly by experts like BASARNAS, to conduct evacuation actions in buildings collapsed due to natural disasters.
“Recognizing the potential earthquake hazards in Indonesia, we volunteers realize the need to continue learning and enhancing our capacity to assist more lives affected by disasters,” explained Daniel Donny Paksi Haryanto, a participant from the Menwa Rescue-Menwa Atma Jaya Unit, during a practical training session.
