BANYUWANGI, EAST JAVA — Heavy rainfall caused Yas River in Kalibaru Wetan Village, Kalibaru Subdistrict, Banyuwangi Regency, to overflow on Thursday (03/11/2022). As a result, flash floods hit dozens of houses in Kalibaru Wetan Village.
The adult chest-high water also caused dozens of houses to be severely damaged and even destroyed. Meanwhile, the bridge connecting the hamlets was also washed away by the flood.
Dompet Dhuafa through the East Java Branch and the Disaster Management Center (DMC) team, deployed 1 (one) ambulance fleet unit, established a Warm Post, distributed 50 food packages, distributed 250 packs of ready-to-eat food, and helped survivors clean up the remaining debris of houses damaged by flash floods.
“Dompet Dhuafa East Java is sorry for the disaster that occurred and has mobilized a team to respond and clean houses and public facilities in the affected locations,” explained Kholid Abdillah as Branch Manager of Dompet Dhuafa East Java, via text message.

Based on data collected in the field, Kalibaru Wetan Village recorded losses of 32 heavily damaged houses, 1 broken bridge, 3 (three) units of cars washed away, 7 (seven) units of motorcycles washed away, and cut off clean water channels. Three cows and 14 goats were also washed away.
Meanwhile, in Kajarharjo Village there were 2 (two) broken bridges that also cut off clean water channels. In Kalibaru Kulon Village, 2 shops were severely damaged, 1 house was severely damaged, 1 fence of the military command was severely damaged, and 1 fence of the police station was severely damaged. Then the flood inundated the road in Kalibarumanis Village. Finally, in Banyuanyar Village, 1 fence was damaged and part of the road was submerged.
Until Friday (04/11/2022), there has been no data on casualties. However, the team will continue to collect the latest data. Around 30 people were displaced. Some residents have started cleaning up the debris left behind by the flash flood.
Currently, survivors need emergency assistance in the form of ready-to-eat food, clean water, and hygiene kits. Dompet Dhuafa also opened a post in Kalibaru Wetan Village.
