Flooding in Derit, West Kalimantan, Dompet Dhuafa Volunteers Evacuate Victims and Distribute Logistical Assistance

WEST KALIMANTAN – Floods with a height of 3-4 meters hit Darit Village, Menyuke Subdistrict, Landak Regency, West Kalimantan. This flood has occurred since January 21, 2025, due to high rainfall so that water from the Upper Menyuke River overflows. Dompet Dhuafa through the Disaster Management Center (DMC) immediately moved quickly by involving a team of volunteers to provide assistance to flood survivors on Friday (24/01/2025).

The flood in Derit caused many houses and public facilities to be submerged. According to reports, this flood not only hit Darit Village, but also the areas of Teluk Batu, Pemantas, Benteng, Sri Lima, Setolo, Begantung. From the data collected, as many as 2,350 people from 715 households were forced to endure difficult conditions due to the flood that hit the area.

Dompet Dhuafa worked with volunteers from joint organizations to conduct a basic assessment to map the needs in the field, evacuate residents from areas that are difficult to access, distribute logistical assistance, and provide standby ambulance services during the emergency response period. This disaster response was also carried out together with the youth of Darit Village.

Based on the assessment results of the Dompet Dhuafa DMC Team, flooding in Darit Village requires urgent assistance in the form of basic necessities, lighting, and medicines, such as fever medicine, skin diseases, and ARI.

“Today we are responding to flooding in the Darit area. The volunteer team has conducted an assessment and distributed logistical assistance. Some assistance has begun to be received by affected residents, such as basic necessities, ready-to-eat food, as well as baby diapers and blankets,” said Shofa Qudus, Head of DMC Dompet Dhuafa.
