JAKARTA — Various struggles are encountered when caring for the sick or undergoing treatment. To pursue regular medical treatments, many patients need to find temporary accommodation, making patient shelters critically important to alleviate their burdens.
In line with this, to strengthen the network among shelters serving patients across Indonesia, the Community Service Institution (LPM) of Dompet Dhuafa established the Nationwide Patient Shelter Forum on Friday (22/12/2023). Fifty individuals from 22 patient shelter representatives across Jabodetabek-Jabar participated in the event.
The activities commenced on Thursday (21/12/2023) with a public discussion titled “Strengthening the Shelter Network,” part of the Indonesia Humanitarian Summit (I-HitS) 2023 series at Ciputra Artpreneur, Jakarta. The event continued with a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) for Patient Shelter Managers in Tebet, Jakarta. It was during this discussion that the chairperson and management of the Nationwide Patient Shelter Forum were elected.

Kamaludin, a Senior Social Services Officer at Dompet Dhuafa, stated that LPM Dompet Dhuafa is committed to continuously serving the community better, in line with the motto “Better at Serving, Serving Better.”
“We hope that this forum will unite our strengths into one solid force. Inshallah, we will remain committed to this movement, so that its impact will bring even greater benefits,” he welcomed.
Through the discussion, Robi Sunandar from LPM Dompet Dhuafa was elected as the Chair of the Nationwide Patient Shelter Forum. Additionally, a general Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) was established for shelters in serving patients.

Ima Humairo from the Cancer Shelter House of the Rapid Response Foundation Humanitarian Emergency Agency (Badak) actively participated in the discussion session.
