SUKABUMI, WEST JAVA — Dompet Dhuafa’s Disaster Management Center (DMC) and Dompet Dhuafa West Java Branch deployed a team of volunteers to help deal with floods that hit a number of areas in Sukabumi, West Java, Thursday (05/12/2024). Dompet Dhuafa has made various efforts since flash floods hit Sukabumi Regency since Wednesday (04/12/2024) until now.
A number of houses were submerged and cars were washed away by the water in several sub-districts. This flash flood was triggered by extreme rainfall reaching more than 100 mm for two consecutive days and making the Cikaso River overflow.
The Dompet Dhuafa DMC volunteer team and Dompet Dhuafa West Java Branch on Thursday (5/12/2024) have successfully evacuated a total of 40 Sukabumi flash flood survivors. In addition, the Dompet Dhuafa DMC team also evacuated residents who wanted to cross between Pasir Laja Village and Cimerang Village.

Several efforts have been made by Dompet Dhuafa DMC and Dompet Dhuafa West Java Branch, including providing Warm Post for flood-affected residents in Sukabumi. The Warm Post was established on Wednesday (11/12/2024), in Kampung Gempol, Cikadu, Palabuhanratu, Sukabumi, with 512 beneficiaries.
According to a report from BPBD Sukabumi, in addition to flooding, the rain that occurred since Tuesday (3/12/2024) and Wednesday (4/12/2024) at the same time caused landslides and soil movement (liquefaction) that affected at least 18 other areas in the area. The persistent rain also caused four rivers in Sukabumi to overflow. The floods closed many roads, including the road to Sagaranten Subdistrict, which was submerged up to 2 meters high.
Although on Friday (6/12/2024), the floods that hit a number of areas of Sukabumi Regency, West Java, began to recede, however, the remaining thick mud piles still accumulated and covered roads, settlements and public facilities in several areas.
For this reason, Dompet Dhuafa DMC and Dompet Dhuafa West Java Branch carried out cleaning actions in the affected locations. This action focused on residents’ houses and mosques that were covered in mud at several points such as Cieurih Village, Eretan Village, Panembong Village, Curug Luhur Village, Sukabumi, West Java.
In addition to cleaning up the mud, the DMC team also provided a public kitchen managed by the residents of Curug Luhur Village. A total of 700 lunch packages have been distributed to 207 households in the area.

The floods that hit Sukabumi brought heavy flows that damaged a number of houses and public facilities, based on the DMC Dompet Dhuafa situation report on Monday, (16/12/2024) there were 5,492 damaged houses, besides that the victims affected also continued to increase, as many as 10 people died, 3,492 people were displaced and two more people were still searching for the team.
Dompet Dhuafa also continues to conduct assessments in a number of areas. The results of the assessment conducted by the Dompet Dhuafa DMC team, some urgent needs are needed by Sukabumi flash flood survivors such as baby equipment, blankets, bedding, ready-to-eat food and clean water.
