Help Children Learn Batik Culture through “Ngangsu Kaweruh” (Volunesia Bootcamp Part 7)

EAST JAVA — Nimas is one of the volunteers from Dompet Dhuafa Voluteer (DDV) Madiun Chapter who delivered a social project at Volunesia Bootcamp 2022. This project took place at the Dompet Dhuafa Madiun Unit Office which is located at Jl. Kp. Rejosari, Rejosari Sawahan, Madiun Regency, East Java.

The social project presented by Nimas and friends was adapted from the Rumah Belajar program which is concerned with education, namely “Ngangsu Kaweruh”. Ngangsu Kaweruh is derived from the Javanese word “Ngangsu” which means to draw and “Kaweruh” which means knowledge.

“Broadly speaking, Ngangsu Kaweruh is similar to the Rumah Belajar program. However, the emphasis is more on the management of volunteers who are invited to go to Rumah Belajar and prioritize teaching for underprivileged children there.” Nimas explained.

This teaching program takes place every day from Monday to Friday. Learning activities carried out there include reminders related to the subject matter that has been taken in formal schools, such as thematic learning and others.

Nimas emphasized that the Ngangsu Kaweruh Project also promotes local culture, namely the original Madiun batik. “As is well known, in this age of convenience, many batik productions produce their batik using stamped rather than written batik. Well, the Ngangsu Kaweruh program here also teaches children to learn to make batik,” said the IAIN student.

In fact, this project not only benefits the local residents, the volunteers also benefit by getting to know local cultures so that they can be more aware and care about the cultures in Indonesia. For the children, Nimas and her friends hope that in addition to learning in the academic field, they can get support for their abilities and skills.

The friends of Dompet Dhuafa Voluteer (DDV) Madiun Chapter were very happy with this Volunesia Bootcamp. On Saturday (17/9/2022), Ngangsu Kaweruh was included in the 11 (eleven) finalists who competed to be the best in front of the Central Dompet Dhuafa team. This event was the culmination of the Volunesia Bootcamp program entitled Spekta Volunesia 2022 at the Philanthropy Building, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta.

“It’s great to meet great people throughout the archipelago, be mentored and gain a lot of experience. Hopefully Volunesia Bootcamp will have batches 2, 3 and so on. So that later when there is an evaluation this year it can be improved next year. There is also a regeneration that can bring our projects to be mentored again and can compete again with friends throughout Indonesia, “concluded Nimas. (Dompet Dhuafa / Muhaitsam)
