MOROCCO — Dompet Dhuafa’s Disaster Management Center (DMC) team has distributed food packages to Morocco earthquake survivors in the Wa’ribu area, Essaouira on Friday (9/22/2023). Until Friday afternoon Indonesian time, the total beneficiaries of DMC food assistance have reached 400 people.
Hassan, one of the Moroccan Earthquake survivors, told us about the difficulties he experienced due to this disaster.
“This house was built by my grandfather, and we were born here. Me and my sister, my brother, my mom and dad, my wife and my children. Everything changed in an instant, and now the children don’t want to go back home, they are all scared,” Hassan told Dompet Dhuafa in Morocco.

Hassan also explained that he and his family also lost their jobs.
“We worked for tourists from Europe and other countries, but now we are all in trouble. We are all out of work at the moment. And we have to stay with our families, we can only sleep outside,” he said.
Nevertheless, Hassan believes that Allah will help them.

“Inshallah we believe Allah Swt will help us. People will help rebuild this house, so we can live in it. We have nowhere to go, so we can only live outside. It is cold at night, and hot during the day, and this is a big problem for all of us,” he concluded.
More than 3,000 people died in the Moroccan earthquake. The quake struck 72 kilometers (about 45 miles) southwest of the tourist spot of Marrakesh at 12 p.m. (2211 GMT) local time. Residents and rescue teams are still trying to find survivors and victims buried in the rubble from the earthquake that occurred on Friday (9/8/2023) night.
