Have you ever felt that the money or sustenance you get does not last long, just stopping by? Or feel that you have quite a lot of income, but it is very difficult to collect it for savings? It could be a sign that the sustenance you get is not blessed. The source of the blessing can come from anywhere, for example from cheating or not being trustworthy when we do work. So, what are the signs of blessed sustenance according to Islam?
What is Blessing?
Barakah or blessing is an Arabic word that means pleasure. According to the term, blessing means ziyadatul khair, which means the increase of goodness. The scholars explained that blessing means: everything that is plentiful and abundant, including material and spiritual, such as security, tranquility, health, wealth, children, and age.
Thus, it can be interpreted that blessings are gifts from Allah Swt that make life more meaningful and rewarding. How to bring this blessing? Allah has told His people through the Qur’an, namely by believing and fearing Him:
‘Had the inhabitants of those lands believed and feared Allah, We would have opened to them blessings from the heavens and the earth.’ (QS. Al-A’raf: 96)
In Islam, blessings are very important and one of the goals in living life. With faith and piety, as well as gratitude to Allah, Insha Allah we can achieve blessings in life.
Signs of Blessed Sustenance
Blessings can be felt by humans in spiritual and material forms, including in the sustenance we get from the work we do with trust and professionalism. Here are 8 signs of blessed sustenance that we can observe in our daily lives:
Avoiding Immorality
A sign that the sustenance we have is blessed by Allah is that we can keep ourselves from things that are sinful. If the wealth we have is not halal and not blessed, then we will easily fall into sin. Things like this have happened a lot.
When a person becomes wealthy not from halal and blessed wealth, then he will spend the wealth he has to disobey Allah. He may become greedy, using any means to get more wealth. This will also certainly make him forget to worship. Well, that can be a sign of unblessed sustenance, because the wealth obtained keeps him away from Allah SWT.
Patience in the Face of Trials
‘O you who believe, be patient, and strengthen your patience, and keep alert (in your borders), and fear Allah, that you may be fortunate.’ (QS Ali Imran: 200)
A sign of blessed sustenance is that we can easily be patient in facing the tests that are present in life. Whether it is a test in the form of happiness, or difficulty. Everything will be easily faced with patience.
The blessings in everyone’s life can be different. In fact, Allah always makes it easy and fulfils our needs, but there are people who realise it and some who do not. Hopefully, we can always realise the blessings that Allah gives in our lives, and be grateful for every blessing in life.
Increased Piety
Piety is the unity of piety, obedience, and obedience to Allah Swt. A sign that our sustenance is blessed is that it can bring us closer to the Creator.
The abundant sustenance that Allah gives, can make us do more good and do good deeds. For example, we can donate our wealth to help build places of worship, schools, help others, and provide educational scholarships for underprivileged children. The point is, the sustenance we have can be used as savings in the hereafter.

Feeling the Favour of Good Deeds
‘So, whoever Allah wills to be guided, He will make his chest wide to accept Islam.’ (QS. Al-An’am: 125)
The above verse explains that a sign of blessed sustenance is feeling the blessings of faith and Islam, including the pleasure of worship. There is no feeling of pressure, heaviness, or pain when doing it. For example, if we give alms, then we will feel the virtue of alms and its benefits in life, making it easier to continue doing it.
Persistence in Doing Good
‘How can you disbelieve, when the verses of Allah are recited to you and His Messenger (Prophet Muhammad) is in your midst? Whoever holds fast to the religion of Allah has indeed been guided to the straight path.’ (QS. Ali ‘Imran: 101)
Being steadfast in doing good means that we continue to adhere to Allah’s commands under any circumstances. A person whose life is full of blessings will carry out the goodness consistently until the end of his life.
Always Longing for Allah
One sign of blessed sustenance is realising that the blessings he feels today come from Allah SWT. So, no wonder he always longs for Allah.
‘Indeed, the believers are those who, when the name of Allah is mentioned, tremble in their hearts, and when His verses are recited, their faith increases, and it is only to God that they put their trust. (Those who establish prayer and spend some of the sustenance We give them.’ (QS Al-Anfal: 2-3)
Treasure Not Easily Lost
A sign that our sustenance is blessed is that it will not be easily lost or reduced. Especially if it is always used for alms. Because, by giving alms, wealth will become a blessing. The more wealth that is given in charity, the more sustenance Allah will give.
Blessed treasure does not have to be a lot. Even with a small amount of wealth, it can still be a blessing. For example, by giving alms in a narrow time or in difficult times. That way, the treasure that is given in charity will not be easily lost.

Calm and Happy Life
Not always people who have wealth, also have happiness in their hearts. This is natural, because it could be that the wealth he earns is not halal and blessed wealth.
The blessed treasure, even though a little feels like it can meet all needs, so that the owner feels safe and calm. When the wealth he has increases, he is not kufr nikmat. Instead, it will make him more calm and happy. There is no more worry in his heart, especially for fear that his wealth will be lost.
That is a series of signs of sustenance that we have blessed by Allah Swt. Friends, alms can make your sustenance more blessed. Because, from the wealth you give away, there are fellow Muslims and humans in need who are helped. This is favoured by Allah Swt. So, don’t stop giving alms, so that more people are helped.
