The Qur’an mentions that disasters can occur as a result of human ugliness and tyranny on earth.

“Corruption has appeared throughout the land and sea by (reason of) what the hands of people have earned so He may let them taste part of (the consequence of) what they have done that perhaps they will return (to righteousness).” (QS. Ar-Rum: 41-42).

Allah (swt) also mentions that disasters can also occur as punishment for the disbelief of the world and the iniquity of man. As in verses Al-Baqarah verses 11-12.

“And when it is said to them, “Do not cause corruption on the earth,” they say, “We are but reformers. Unquestionably, it is they who are the corrupters, but they perceive (it) not.” (QS. Al-Baqarah: 11-12). (Dompet Dhuafa/DMC)
