So, is it true that the verse of a thousand dinars has the virtues that Muslims believe in? If so, how to practice the verse of a thousand dinars so that this prayer can be an effective prayer?
Verse of a Thousand Dinars
Allah says in the Qur’an surah Fushshilat verse 44 that He sent down the Qur’an as a guide and healer for those who believe. This is what makes the verses in the Qur’an used as daily wirid and prayers by Muslims. One of them is Al-Qur’an surah At-Thalaq verses 2 & 3 or better known as the verse of a thousand dinars.
Imam Ahmad narrated from Abu Dhar. Abu Dzar said: “The Messenger of Allah said: ‘Verily, I know of a verse which, if mankind as a whole were to take it up (cling to it), it would provide them with sufficiency’. After that the Messenger of Allah recited the verse.” Abu Dhar continued: “The Messenger of Allah kept repeating and repeating the verse until I became sleepy”.

Through this narration, we can conclude that the Prophet Muhammad has emphasized that if we are able to hold fast to the verses of the Qur’an, then these verses can provide sufficiency, both in this world and in the hereafter. Holding fast here means understanding, contemplating, and instilling the meaning of the verse in our hearts. Then, we apply it in our daily lives, i.e. always fearing and relying on Allah Swt everywhere and under any circumstances.
Similarly, the verse of one thousand dinars, if we as Muslims cling to it, then this verse can be a means for us to get sufficiency and help from Allah SWT. However, how to practice the prayer of the verse of one thousand dinars in our daily lives?
How to Practice the Verse of One Thousand Dinars
The daily practice of the verse of one thousand dinars adopted by Muslims varies. Some recite it after every fard prayer. Some make it a remembrance in the morning and evening. There are also those who practice by reciting it hundreds of times a day.
Reciting remembrance or prayer with a certain number (100, 33, 300, etc.) was never taught by the Prophet Muhammad. For this reason, this number rule has become controversial among Muslims. Some groups are pro, while others are against because they consider this heresy.
Here are two ways of practicing the verse of one thousand dinars according to scholars:
- Read after finishing the fard prayer
Husin Kadri through his book entitled Weapon of the Believer explains how to practice the verse of a thousand dinars. According to him, whoever practices or recites the verse of a thousand dinars at every time after the five daily prayers (fard prayers), surely Allah will bless his sustenance and He will achieve for him the glory of the world and the hereafter.
This verse is recited three times, followed by the recitation, “ya musabbibal asbaabi sabbib” which means “O the cause of all causes (Allah)”.
- Read when going to bed and leaving the house
Abdullah Zein in his book entitled Miracles of Surahs in the Qur’an Juz 28, 29 and 30 also advocates the same thing as Husin Kadri. However, there is a slight addition. According to him, the verse of one thousand dinars can be practiced after completing the five daily prayers without limitation in number, three times before going to bed, and at least three times when going out of the house.
Keep in mind, like the Prophet’s guidance in the previous hadith that the practice of this prayer needs to be accompanied by tawakal and also effort. In addition, we also need to be diligent in practicing it, not just once or twice.
