Hundreds of Aid Packages Return to Visit Turkish Earthquake Survivors

Hatay, Turkey – Dompet Dhuafa through the Disaster Management Center (DMC) Dompet Dhuafa again distributed 100 food packages and provided health services in Ovakent, Antakya District, Hatay Province (15/02/2023).

“Until now, it is still distributing and doing doorstop treatment if someone asks for health services until 8 o’clock tonight,” explained Narwan as Manager of Response-Recovery DMC Dompet Dhuafa reporting from the field.

Although they had to break through the cold of the night and the snow that crowded along the way, it did not reduce the enthusiasm of the Dompet Dhuafa team in assisting.

“One thing that made us feel shocked when distributing aid from Dompet Dhuafa donors to Turkish and Syrian earthquake refugees was their fortitude to receive earthquake tests,” explained dr. Sjarif Darmawan Sp.B Dompet Dhuafa medical volunteers reported from the scene.

Furthermore, dr. Sjarif said the survivors of the Turkish earthquake worked hand in hand to strengthen each other. Although Lara’s grief was still in her arms, they persisted and struggled during the enraging winter.

“We asked what you needed, their answer immediately made us all feel like, ‘God willing, my brother enough, Allah will suffice all’ said one of the refugees. Even though it is clear to the naked eye that we see they still need help from all of us, until now they are still struggling with winter,” continued dr. Sjarif.

“And living in tents and of course also with food sources for the next few weeks has also run out because they have not been able to work because the land and livelihoods are affected by the earthquake,” added dr. Sjarif.

Meanwhile, Respons Darurat Kesehatan (RDK) Layanan Kesehatan Cuma-cuma (LKC) medical team that joined the Indonesian Emergency Medical Team (EMT) opened a Field Hospital in Ardic.

“The services that will be provided are polyclinics such as general clinics, inpatients, small and large surgeries, obstetrics, gynaecology, and services for children,” concluded dr. Zainab Aqila as the RDK LKC Dompet Dhuafa team reporting from Ardic.
