The boarding school is equivalent to junior high school and will offer the national curriculum, namely the independent curriculum, as has been implemented in several Dompet Dhuafa waqf schools including Al Syukro Universal in South Tangerang, SMART Ekselensia, and Smart Cibinong School in Bogor.
During the inauguration, Ismail A. Said, Wakif of PBM Az Zahra, Asep Hendriana, Director of Education of Dompet Dhuafa, Cicih Kurnia, Secretary of Umar Usman Education Foundation (YPUU) and Director of Al Syukro Universal School, representatives of Dompet Dhuafa’s Waqf Investment Development Institute (LPIW), Amadi, Head of West Abung Sub-District, and the people of Bukit Kemuning were present.

“Az Zahra Modern Islamic Boarding School wants to produce graduates who are good at English and Arabic. And as the name suggests, in Cahaya Village, Bukit Kemuning there is a lot of agricultural potential, so this Pondok has an Agropreneur curriculum to help maximize the potential here. Also during the first year, the form fee is free,” said Cicih.
Currently in the PBM Az Zahra area there is a mosque, several offices and classrooms for students, as well as two teaching houses. Along the way, Ismail A. Said has donated 7,225 square meters of land located in the area behind the Az Zahra Mosque. The plan is that the building behind it, which is covered with white paint, will be used for the santri dormitory. In the middle area of this area, a sports field will be built to meet the physical needs of the santri and santri of Pondok Modern Az Zahra.
One of these development plans is in line with the goal of the establishment of the Az Zahra Quran Learning Center (PBM) which wants to eradicate Quran illiteracy in North Lampung. Through complete educational facilities, the effort continues to produce Quran memorizers, especially teenagers entering junior high school.

“We endow PBM Az Zahra for the benefit of developing human resources in the West Abung region, we endow another 7,225 square meters of waqf land behind which later male and female dormitories and other educational facilities can be built,” said Ismail when giving a speech at the launch of Pondok Modern Az Zahra.
In addition to the launch of the Az Zahra Modern Islamic Boarding School, a land certificate was also handed over by Ismail A Said as the Wakif and given to Dompet Dhuafa representative, Defri Ariandi. Through this handover, it is planned that learning at the Az Zahra Modern Islamic Boarding School will begin to open to the public in the 2025/2026 school year.
This Modern Islamic Boarding School is expected to improve the quality of education in North Lampung, especially in Cahaya Negeri Village. Fulfilling this need is to answer the problems of adolescents that are often encountered due to teenage activities that are not filled with useful activities. The solution is that children need to be given space for positive activities such as learning to recite the Quran, which PBM Az Zahra has been doing since 2021.
In line with that, support was also given by the West Abung Sub-District Head, Amidi. He appreciated the presence of the Az Zahra Modern Islamic Boarding School in West Abung District. said, “Thankful and grateful for the establishment of the Az Zahra Modern Islamic Boarding School, it is a stronghold in the community to prevent the younger generation from drugs, promiscuity, and other negative things.”

The establishment of Az Zahra Modern Islamic Boarding School is expected to be a lamp of light for the surrounding community. Light that illuminates life with useful knowledge sourced from the Quran and Hadith. “Dompet Dhuafa is present in Cahaya Negeri Village with a lot of goodness, I hope that the establishment of the Az Zahra Modern Islamic Boarding School can be a light for the community to get quality education. In Lampung there are many great national figures, from Cahaya Negeri Village it is hoped that a great future generation will emerge, “said Asep Hendriana as Director of Education of Dompet Dhuafa.
Quoting the proverb “It takes a village to raise a child” which means it takes a village to raise a child to grow well. So the educational needs in the North Lampung environment are also the responsibility of all parties, from educators to the surrounding community. The hope is that the boarding school will be able to contribute to the role of quality Islamic education for the community around Cahaya Negeri Village, North Lampung. (Dompet Dhuafa)
