JAKARTA — Nearly half of the funds raised by Dompet Dhuafa come from Ziswaf (Zakat, Infaq, Almsgiving, and Waqf) contributions during Ramadan. This underscores the community’s eagerness to fulfill their obligations to assist their less fortunate brothers and sisters. Nevertheless, the actual amount collected is still significantly less than the potential zakat pool. A study by BAZNAS RI estimates Indonesia’s zakat potential at IDR 327 trillion.
Ahmad Juwaini, Chairman of the Dompet Dhuafa Board of Trustees, spoke at the Temu Insan and Leader’s Insight event held at the Cordofa Dompet Dhuafa Mosque in South Jakarta on Wednesday (31/1/2024). He highlighted that Ramadan represents a pivotal moment in the global Muslim community’s calendar. Throughout this month, individuals strive to perform acts of kindness and seek blessings in their endeavors. This effort includes fulfilling the zakat al-fitr obligation and engaging in other charitable acts like infaq, almsgiving, and waqf.

“We are soon to experience a moment of great significance — Ramadan. This period holds crucial importance in the Muslim community’s agenda,” he addressed the Dompet Dhuafa staff.
The ex-Director of the National Committee for Islamic Economy and Finance (KNEKS) stressed the importance of Ramadan as an opportunity for Dompet Dhuafa to educate the public about Ziswaf. The goal is to increase awareness of Ziswaf’s benefits, thereby assisting more underprivileged individuals, God willing.
“Let’s fortify our resolve and unity to encourage as many people as possible to participate in acts of kindness during Ramadan. The rewards of such participation are vast, benefitting not just the donors (muzakki) but also the recipients of these acts,” he advised.

During the event, Dompet Dhuafa also expressed gratitude to its staff members who have made substantial contributions to the organization. This acknowledgment came in the form of Umrah awards for five Dompet Dhuafa staff members. They view this award as a trust and plan to fully utilize the opportunity to visit and worship in the Holy Land, aiming to receive even greater blessings. (Dompet Dhuafa/Muthohar)
