JAKARTA – To enhance waqf literacy, Dompet Dhuafa, in collaboration with the Directorate General of Financing and Risk Management (DJPPR) and the National Committee for Islamic Economy and Finance (KNEKS), held a Wakaferse Talkshow, entitled ‘Millennial Berwakaf.’ The event, held on Tuesday (11/10/2023) at Graha Sawala, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Central Jakarta, was aimed at increasing active participation of the public, especially millennials, by providing education on waqf and its applications.
The Wakaferse Talkshow, themed ‘Millennial Berwakaf: Smart Spiritually, Smart Financially,’ is one of the means of developing waqf communication to all elements of society. Through this event, it is hoped that information and education related to waqf will be well conveyed, thus creating community empowerment that is independent from the waqf sector.
On this occasion, Dompet Dhuafa involved more stakeholders, attended by the Director of Sharia Financing of DJPPR of the Ministry of Finance RI, Dwi Irianti Hadiningdyah, GM of Waqf Collection at Dompet Dhuafa, Bobby P Manullang, Deputy Director of Sharia Social Funds at KNEKS, Urip Budiarto, Islamic Financial Planner Practitioner, and Chiki Fawzi as a Key Opinion Leader (KOL).

“Dompet Dhuafa, along with the Ministry of Finance, is implementing a Millennial Waqf movement launch. This year we want to target more millennials. We invite millennials to campaign together. We will do a massive exposure of the productive waqf assets that have been built by Dompet Dhuafa, how this benefits the mustahiq, the millennials. We hope to become an agent of change amplifying that waqf assets are always managed productively and provide the widest benefits,” said Bobby.
In line with this, the Ministry of Finance is actively participating in enlivening waqf, one of which is through the Cash Waqf Linked Sukuk (CWLS) program, a product related to waqf and a state financial instrument. CWLS is an SBSN investment product provided as an investment alternative for Nazirs in managing cash waqf and other social funds in supporting the economic empowerment of the ummah and social community activities.
“Through waqf, we can make our wealth a sustainable blessing. Cash Waqf CWLS not only reflects financial intelligence but also provides real benefits for our needy brothers and sisters, and certainly contributes to building Indonesia’s future economy to become independent,” expressed the Director of Sharia Financing, Dwi Irianti Hadiningdyah.
Furthermore, the involvement of several stakeholders in the Islamic financial banking industry and also KNEKS is done to show that the presence of waqf is actually complementary to many Islamic financial ecosystems that will become the main instrument in the economic movement in this country.
This event also provided literacy on how society can be smart spiritually and financially. Dompet Dhuafa appreciates the inner voice of millennials who are actually very concerned about humanitarian issues today. This intelligence is expected to take root, how millennials compose a financial plan. Through this way, Dompet Dhuafa fosters a fondness for waqf, so that waqf becomes part of the financial planning of millennials.
Dompet Dhuafa as a waqf Nazir, which has been receiving and managing CWLS returns, with national and international collecting capabilities, is promoting waqf of just Rp10,000 to millennials with the power of micro-giving, with a waqf movement equivalent to the price of a cup of coffee.

“We know that waqf literacy is still very low. Therefore, Wakaferse, waqf for millennials, is also a means and concept for waqf to be more widely known by the public. Without deep understanding of waqf, we will not obtain significant waqf donations from the public. Therefore, we invite through Wakaferse for the public to become seeing of believing, whereby seeing directly they believe, and with belief, they can participate,” added Bobby.
In addition to the Million Wakif movement, Dompet Dhuafa continues to invite all elements of society to participate, to collaborate in completing the Pesantren Tahfidz Green Lido, which stands on 2.6 hectares of waqf land in Lido, Sukabumi. The learning process of memorizing the Quran in E-Tahfidz School Dompet Dhuafa becomes a representation of the learning program at Pesantren Tahfidz Green Lido in the future. This integrated pesantren is targeted to produce Quran memorizers competent to become Dai and community leaders.
Urip Budiarto, Deputy Director of Sharia Social Funds at KNEKS, expressed his hope that ‘Millennial Berwakaf’ can continue to build waqf in Indonesia and spread wider benefits.

“This program is a very good initiative, introducing waqf to the ASN environment, especially the Ministry of Finance, and of course also introducing several products that have become innovations today like Cash Waqf Linked Sukuf, as well as innovations made by Dompet Dhuafa. I think it’s quite good, so the Ministry of Finance can be enlightened, inspired, and hopefully also become actively participative in the development of waqf, especially productive waqf in Indonesia. Hopefully, it can continue to build waqf in Indonesia and provide the best benefits to the ummah,” added Urip.
One of the participants of the Wakaferse Talkshow, Difa, also shared her experience following this Millennial Berwakaf. For her, this activity greatly educated her to know more about the world of waqf.
‘It’s really insightful because what we were very minimally aware of about waqf can now be more aware. For example, for Cash Waqf Linked Sukuk, it’s not just about 3M (Makam, Masjid, and Madrasah). So, there are many ways, especially with programs that apparently cost the price of a cup of coffee that can be used for waqf. These are ways that appeal to young people,’ said Difa.
