Mocca to Aiman Ricky Call for Qurbani in Literacy Park

Seruan Tebar Hewan Kurban 1445 H di Taman Literasi

JAKARTA — The findings of the Institute for Demographic and Poverty Studies (IDEAS) say that urban areas are meat surplus areas, while some remote areas actually experience a meat deficit. One of the samples on the island of Java is the city of Bandung, which reached a surplus of meat consumption of 2,374 tons and Brebes district, which experienced a deficit of up to 905 tons of meat.

Departing from the study data, Dompet Dhuafa chose to intervene in equalizing the distribution of meat between urban and remote areas. Various efforts were made, one of which was through Kurbanaval as a means of socializing the Tebar Hewan Kurban (THK) Program. For 30 years, Dompet Dhuafa has experienced rolling out THK as a solution to this problem.

The core agenda of Kurbanaval was the socialization of THK which was held on Saturday (1/6/2024) at Taman Literasi, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta. The forum involved an active dialog between speakers and visitors. The speakers consisted of the Chairman of THK 1445 H, Bobby P. Manullang; Secretary of the Board of Yayasan Dompet Dhuafa Republika (YDDR), Etika Setiawanti and Public Figure Aiman Ricky.

The socialization titled “Kurban Talk” took place at Taman Literasi, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta on Saturday (1/6/2024).

Etika explained that THK reflects on the disparity in meat consumption in Indonesia’s regions and endeavours to equalise the distribution of qurbani meat. The benefits will not only be felt by the recipients of qurbani meat, but also the local farmers who supply the animals. In addition to fulfilling religious laws, qurbani can also have an economic and social impact on the wider community.

“We don’t want the qurbani meat to accumulate in big cities. Therefore, we divert the distribution to areas where people rarely consume meat,” said Etika that afternoon.

At night, the Literacy Garden gets even more crowded with visitors.

“We echo the 3 Definites in THK. That is definitely male. So that farm animals such as sheep or goats do not become extinct and avoid meat imports. Then it must have passed Quality Control, meaning that it has gone through a health check process and is in accordance with Sharia. Finally, it must be distributed to remote areas, as a form of Dompet Dhuafa’s commitment to pay more attention to the 3T (Disadvantaged, Frontier, Outermost) areas, “explained Etika.

Continuing Etika, Bobby explained the plans of the THK Dompet Dhuafa team this year. Dompet Dhuafa will deploy teams to 30 points from Sabang to Merauke to check the cages of Dompet Dhuafa’s partner livestock suppliers. Of course this is to overcome the inequality of meat consumption, where the index in eastern regions reaches an average of 0.07 kilograms per year. On Hari Raya later, Bobby continued, there will be a monitoring team that goes to the slaughter location.

“This is our endeavour to ensure donors or prospective qurbani performers that the animals are in accordance with the quality and Sharia law. At the time of slaughter, donors will get a report in real time and sent directly in the form of digital files to their respective emails and WhatsApp,” said Bobby.

The socialisation was closed with a story from Aiman Ricky who accompanied the Dompet Dhuafa Team in carrying out the Quality Control procession at DD Farm Solok, West Sumatra last May. He admitted that he witnessed checking with the concept of ASUH (Safe, Healthy, Whole and Halal) by the team. Not to forget, he also invited the visitors of Kurbanaval that afternoon to sacrifice with him at Dompet Dhuafa.

“I saw directly the process (Quality Control). I admit that Dompet Dhuafa has good management. I invite friends here to jointly sacrifice with me, a cow that will be divided 1/7. Later I will accompany the Monitoring Team to slaughter it in remote areas. The location is either in Aceh or West Sumatra,” said Aiman excitedly.

Apart from focusing on the distribution of meat in remote areas of Indonesia, THK also targets areas prone to conflict and humanitarian crises, such as Gaza, Palestine. Tiara Nabila and Aresdi Mahdi Asyathry were also present to invite visitors to sacrifice in Palestine, considering that THK Dompet Dhuafa also provides the Palestinian Qurbani programme. The two humanitarian activists stated that this was a form of solidarity to defend Palestine.

The socialisation did not only come from academics and practitioners, but also from musicians. Pitu Band and Mocca called for qurbani to the visitors. As the evening wore on, their music began to spoil the ears of the visitors. Mocca’s song “I Remember” closed the Kurbanaval, reminding us not to forget to perform qurbani.

“Since Eid-ul-Adha is coming soon, let’s not forget to perform qurbani. Of course, at Dompet Dhuafa,” said Arina and other personnel.
