JAKARTA —Children are exceptional imitators, and the good examples set by their parents will likely be followed by them. Thus, it is essential for both fathers and mothers to instill noble and virtuous traits from an early age, including generosity. This quality will lead children to become individuals inclined to assist others in need.
To continuously honor and emphasize the dignity of women, especially mothers, in Islamic teachings, Dompet Dhuafa organized a study session titled “Mother as a Role Model for the Family in the Perspective of the Qur’an and Hadith”. This event was conducted by Dompet Dhuafa in collaboration with the Majelis Taklim of Masjid Jami Bintaro Jaya (MJBJ).
The study session for women was intentionally scheduled for Thursday (21/12/2023), the eve of Mother’s Day, celebrated annually on December 22nd. It started with a Tahsin recitation of the Qur’an, led by Ustaz Aqil Haidar, a lecturer in Fiqh, Tafsir, and Arabic Language. Congregation members were randomly invited to read the Qur’an, which was then corrected and enhanced by Ustaz Aqil Haidar in the MJBJ Hall, Bintaro, Pesanggrahan District, South Jakarta.

The event proceeded with a presentation on waqf by Sulistiqomah, the Waqf Manager of Dompet Dhuafa, themed Waqf for Mothers. She suggested that the best gift for a mother is something everlasting. As an Islamic philanthropy institution and a nazir, Dompet Dhuafa has managed waqf to extend its benefits across five program pillars.
“With waqf in the name of a mother, we aim not only for an unending reward but also to provide extensive benefits. Today, Dompet Dhuafa, through the waqf instrument, focuses on health, education, economy, social culture, and da’wah,” Sulistiqomah explained.
In light of the humanitarian tragedy in Palestine, Dompet Dhuafa also introduced the Waqf Ambulance for Palestine program. Previously, Dompet Dhuafa had dispatched two waqf ambulances in Palestine, both of which were destroyed in attacks by Israel.

“Therefore, we are calling on all segments of society to once again present waqf ambulances for our brothers and sisters in Palestine as a form of tangible support,” stated the Waqf Manager of Dompet Dhuafa.
After the presentation about the Dompet Dhuafa Waqf Program, Ustaz Maulana delivered a sermon about the nobility of women, particularly mothers. According to him, there are four queens of heaven.
“They include Queen Asiyah, who was the wife of the tyrannical king Pharaoh but was blessed with extraordinary patience. A home for her in Heaven,” Ustaz Maulana said.

The second queen of heaven is Maryam, a devout worshipper and a role model for women. The third is Khadijah, the mother of believers, who was willing to sacrifice and support her husband in both joy and sorrow. The dedication of Prophet Muhammad’s wife to achieving Allah’s pleasure is unquestionable. Her entire life was devoted to the spread of Islam. Lastly is Fatimah, a righteous daughter who was highly obedient to her parents.
Ustaz Maulana further elaborated that there are four aspects through which a woman can attain nobility. First, as a righteous daughter, a child who is devoted to her parents and obedient to religion will be beneficial and useful to her peers.
“Do not let the children cry, for they are surrounded by 3,600 angels,” he emphasized.

The second aspect is being a caring relative, achieved by fulfilling relatives’ rights, such as responding to greetings, praying for someone who sneezes, not giving greetings when it’s not feasible to receive a response, visiting the sick, and comforting a grieving sibling.
The third aspect is being an obedient wife, characterized by tranquility, love, and mercy.
“An obedient wife is comforting, accepting, and giving,” he stated.
Lastly, a woman can achieve nobility by being a loving mother. Being a mother is an exquisite gift, and in Islam, respect for mothers is immense. Therefore, according to Ustaz Maulana, there are specific times when a mother’s presence is indispensable, such as when a child is sick, sad, achieving something, on holiday, and during once-in-a-lifetime events.
The study session concluded with a prayer led by Ustaz Maulana and the donation of waqf from the congregation of Majelis Taklim MJBJ for the procurement of ambulances for Palestine through Dompet Dhuafa. Dompet Dhuafa serves as a nazir, registered and certified by the Indonesian Waqf Board (BWI). Committed to compassion and empowering the community, Dompet Dhuafa continues to strive for the productive management of waqf to extend its benefits. (Dompet Dhuafa/Waqf/Hafiz/Anndini)
