Mount Api Ruang has alert status! Dompet Dhuafa Assists Evacuation and Medical Treatment for Survivors

SITARO, NORTH SULAWESI — On Saturday (20/4/2024), Dompet Dhuafa Disaster Management Center (DMC) and Dompet Dhuafa North Sulawesi Branch deployed personnel to assist in evacuation and medical treatment for residents affected by the eruption of Mount Ruang in Apengsala Village, Tagulandang District, Siau Tagulandang Biaro Regency (Sitaro), North Sulawesi. It is known that Ruang Volcano erupted on Tuesday (4/16/2024) night, affecting Pumpente Village and Pathology Village in Tagulandang District.

However, referring to the report of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), after the eruption that occurred on Tuesday-Wednesday (16-17/4/2024), the area affected by the volcanic material of Mount Ruang expanded. Among them include 10 villages and 2 sub-districts in Tagulandang District, Sitaro Regency.

The details of the villages in Sitaro Regency affected by the eruption of Mount Ruang include Pumpente, Laingpatehi, Mahangiang, Tulusan Barangka Pehe, Apengsala, Lesah Rende, Pahiama, Boto, Leseh and Bahoi Village and Balehumara Village.

Seeing the situation that occurred around the Mount Ruang area, Dompet Dhuafa DMC was present to evacuate affected residents to safe areas and assist medical treatment for residents in need.

“We have evacuated and provided medical treatment to affected residents in Apengsala Village, Tagulandang District. There were 18 beneficiaries in this activity that we did,” said Fai Umarama as the person in charge of the DMC Dompet Dhuafa’s Mount Ruang Eruption Response, in his written report.

Given the volcanic material of Mount Ruang that continues to spread, such as volcanic ash rain accompanied by gravel and rocks, the Dompet Dhuafa DMC Team also distributed 300 masks to anticipate the risk of ARI disorders.

In a written report on BNPB’s official website, Abdul Muhari, Head of BNPB’s Disaster Information and Communication Data Center, explained that emergency handling efforts for the Mount Ruang eruption disaster continue to be carried out by the joint team, following the impact of the volcanic eruption which has the status of “Awas” level IV.

“Material losses due to the impact of this disaster include approximately 135 houses in Sitaro Regency, of which there are 363 damaged houses, 2 damaged churches and 1 damaged elementary school,” Abdul said in his written report.
