KARANGANYAR, CENTRAL JAVA — As a Muslim-majority country, Indonesia has great potential to collect and manage zakat funds. Apart from being a religious obligation, zakat is also an important instrument to reduce social inequality and encourage sustainable development. To be able to achieve the maximum potential of zakat, professional and innovative management is needed.
On the other hand, Indonesia is blessed with natural wealth and cultural diversity, and is also known as a disaster-prone country. Located at the confluence of three major tectonic plates, namely the Eurasian Plate, the Indo-Australian Plate, and the Pacific Plate, it is one of the main factors causing the high risk of natural disasters in Indonesia.
Understanding the urgency of increasing capacity and readiness in facing the threat of disaster, Dompet Dhuafa together with the Disaster Management Center (DMC) held Capacity Building and Disaster Response Training as a commitment to continue strengthening the network of Zakat Management Partners (MPZ) throughout Indonesia. This agenda was held for three days, from 21-23 November 2024 at Telaga Madirda, Karanganyar Regency, Central Java.
In order to increase knowledge and capacity in a targeted manner, participants in the Capacity Building Disaster Response Training were selected proportionally. The participants are Dompet Dhuafa MPZs attached to three Dompet Dhuafa branches, namely Dompet Dhuafa Central Java Branch, Dompet Dhuafa East Java Branch, Dompet Dhuafa Yogyakarta Branch. The selection results provided an opportunity for 44 participants to take part in a series of Capacity Building Disaster Response Training.
The event was attended by Dompet Dhuafa Deputy Corporate Secretary, Dian Mulyadi, Head of MPZ Management Department, Sulis Tiqomah, Central Java Branch Manager, Zaini Tafrikhan, Yogyakarta Branch Manager, Muhammad Zahron, and East Java Branch Manager, Rizzqi Aladib.
Dompet Dhuafa’s Deputy Corporate Secretary, Dian Mulyadi, emphasised that since the beginning Dompet Dhuafa has been present as an institution that serves the community comprehensively. One of them is by increasing capacity and holding Disaster Response Training for MPZ Dompet Dhuafa.
‘This is Dompet Dhuafa’s effort to continue to build collaboration. With the spirit of growing and growing, let’s strengthen Dompet Dhuafa’s national volunteer network,’ he explained.
On the other hand, according to Dian Mulyadi, as we approach the end of 2024 and enter the rainy season, maximum preparedness is needed.
‘As a humanitarian organisation, this is a must so that we can continue to assist the community, especially those who are categorised as poor,’ he said.
Meanwhile, Head of the MPZ Management Department, Sulis Tiqomah, said that the event consisted of two main agendas.
‘There are two, namely capacity building on the first day and disaster response training on the second day,’ she said.
On the first day, capacity building was held with the theme Communication Strategy and Empowerment Programme Based on Local Wisdom.
‘We presented a local leader from Yogyakarta to complement the knowledge related to empowerment programmes,’ he explained.
Dompet Dhufa’s commitment to the network gathered in MPZ is not only for the Java region. Sulis also said that a similar agenda will be duplicated in several regions spread throughout Indonesia.
‘God willing, we will also hold Capacity Building and Disaster Response Training agendas in the Sumatra region, Kalimantan region, and Sulawesi region,’ she said. (Dompet Dhuafa)
