Napak Tilas Dakwah Walisongo to Champa City, the Land of the Blue Dragon

CHAMPA, VIETNAM – -On Thursday (27/06/2024), Dompet Dhuafa in the entourage of the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) stayed in touch with the Muslim Community of Champa, Vietnam. This community is classified as a minority in the Land of the Blue Dragon.

Despite being under the control of a communist government, the lives of Vietnamese people continue to run in harmony. This is because the Vietnamese government, which has a communist socialist direction, provides freedom for its people in religion.

Geographically, Vietnam is a tropical country where agriculture is the main source of its economy and rivers are the main route of distribution of its produce. The country’s religion is Buddhism, but it is not the majority religion.

On the occasion of this trip, Dompet Dhuafa and the Coordinating Minister for PMK’s entourage stopped by to stay in touch with the Champa Muslim Community. This community lives in the southern part of An Giang Province, about 6.5 hours from Ho Chi Minh City. Champa Muslims number at least 30,000. They live side by side in harmony.

Champa City also reminds us of the missionary journey of Sunan Gunung Jati who married a Champa woman. Sunan Gunung Jati started his missionary work from Vietnam until he finally landed and settled in Cirebon and then spread Islam there.

Mrs. Merry as the Chairperson of the An Giang Islamic Community admitted that she was very touched by the kindness of Indonesian Muslims who wanted to help build the Salamad Indonesia Mosque in Long Xuyen, An Giang.

Dr. H. Usman as the Grand Imam of the Champa Mosque said, “It is beautiful Islamic brotherhood that knows no distance, time, ethnicity, race, and culture. We hope that in the future, not only the construction of the Salamad Mosque, hopefully there can also be cooperation in our student scholarship program to Indonesia.” (Dompet Dhuafa)
